Door Locks / Windows Control Unit..........

A friend has just got a 2001 4.2 and it has been consistently locking him out. A "Chinese reset", (yes I have searched & read through the forum before posting ), cured it temporally but in the course of diagnoses today the unit was plugged back in incorrectly. It killed a relay in the box that I've replaced and blew a fuse but now it doesn't work at all. The relays click when connected and the door and boot locks make a noise initial but the windows don't work and neither do the door switches.

I'm pretty sure I found the initial problem the ribbon between the 2 circuit boards in the unit one of the traces was broken making it flaky. Trouble is now I think its dead so the question is any ideas who might have a second hand one or a new one also please could someone post a image of the unit connected just so I can be 100% sure a new one will be connected correctly when sourced..

Thanks for the replies, I read both those links the one with the connectors image was showing as a dead image link before, anyhow that's how it's connected.

This is also a different problem & a different car to the second link, but I grant you it's weird.

There isn't actually much to the box it's mostly relays and simple components, there's a PIC16C57-RCI/P X 2 (IC logic circuit) and ULn2803a x 2 (Darlington array, relay control).

The first is only £3 or £4 the second £1 if I can track some down as they are both discontinued.

In theory I can replace all the components fairly cheaply so I'll set that in motion while I also try to track down a replacement.

The problem is the fault could be within the PIC chip, this chip is a programmable processor, it contains its own ROM and it is proberbly the program on that ROM that is scrambled so replacing the chip wont fix the fault (as TVR programmed it) it will make it worse. I wonder if anyone on here has bothered to make a copy of all the black box PIC programmes, now that would be usefull!

My box was knacked kev. Burnt a relay out. Second hand one cost me £80.

Thanks going to try and source one monday as the car is pretty much unuseable without it, but out of interest did you still have your unit with the dead relay by any chance?

I have a PICALL Programmer so I'll also try to source some PIC16C57-RCI/P chips to program and attempt to clone some spares..

Hi Zytec.

Answer is no. Had to cut/strip the old box so as to double check it was the relay. Didnt want to connect new one and knacker that too.

Got my replacement from breakers yard.

Thanks for the help sourced a 2nd hand unit from douglas valley and fitted it today seems to work ok but there's another issue not sure if it's related so I'll post another topic about it I think......
