Upgrades/goodies?

OK, I know I haven't actually bought my Cerb yet but I'm getting there! More questions for those of you in the know.

Essential upgrades appear to be to the suspension and an obligatory sports exhaust. I'm unlikely to venture onto a track with the car when I eventually find the one I want, so would I notice much benefit from upgrading if I bought a completely standard car?

Re. the exhaust, I like to listen to a good crackle or growl (ask my neighbours about my CCMR30 with full sports system Their kids are terrified! ) and so how much different is a good sports system to the one fitted as standard to the Cerb? Are there any adjustments to the induction system required when fitting a sports exhaust?

What I'm trying to work out is the difference in valuation between, say, a completely standard Cerbera or one with a few mods. As I intend to keep the Cerb for a good while I'm inclined to buy as standard a version as possible and make a few mods myself. That way I'm not buying anything that I'm not likely to get the benefit of. Anyone any thoughts (other than I'm a tight fisted old git)?

Also, who is my local/closest TVR specialist? I live 25 miles outside Nottingham.

Plenty of threads about suspension and exhausts if you do a search.

Suspension, read here - www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=276897&r=3539846&hm=27881#3539846, plenty of options from a std replacements to Avo, Gaz, Protech, Nitron, Intrax and Ohlin.

Sports Exhausts - read here (amongst many threads) - www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=286628&r=3685762&hm=27881#3685762, not too many options, but the sports exhaust does sound good, although whether the sound improves with a de-cat is a split decision on here. The best combination for sound is touted to be the std rear box and pipes with a de-cat, not the loudest, this is a big bore exhaust with de-cats. If you start looking at De-cat pipes then also include the linked de-cats.

Upgrades / Improvements will not detract from the value of your future Cerb, most of the upgrades available are recognised by most of the Cerb community as a must over the standard alternative, this is mainly based on cost, value for money and the fact that most of the upgrades are an improvement.

best bet is to buy a car with the mods done or you will spend much more doing it yourself. If you want to do track days then a sports exhaust is going to be harder to get below noise regs.

remember that decats have the advantage of spitting flames

i have std back box with decats which sounds amazing.
i have gaz front suspension & std rear. it could really do with the rears updating but they ain't broke yet so they'll have to wait... however, experience of replacing std suspension on a Chimaera with Nitrons would suggest that such an upgrade on a Cerb will transform your car for both track AND road. it's not cheap, but i think it probably is worth it.

I have recently changed to sports exhausts after a year of ownership and find that they sound alot more like what a v8 should sound like, (i have no cats), but with the foot to the floor (i never thought i would say this) they're too loud, i also think it may be a bit slower with the sports pipes as it does'nt seem to have the same low revs grunt
will play with them a little more though before i decide whether to change back or not as there is a lot of difference, not all good

General experience on here seems to be:-
Preferred
1)Sports Exhaust retain Cat or
2)no Cat and standard exhaust
both maintain back-pressure and hence power

3) remove Cats & fit Sports
Taking out both tends to lose you power and sounds to some ears a bit too harsh (and VERY loud at high revs)

Finally, don't forget that removing the Cats invalidates your insurance so you will be driving uninsured (vehicle must at all times pass MOT, not just at test time, and this is an easily checked item for a loss adjuster to hit you with - they are paid to reduce claims), so I would suggest you go for 1)

I've just had a look on TCS website....there's some interesting stuff on there. I think if I were to try a few of the mods that they offer I'll need to wear a space suit and have a re-entry shield on the front of whatever car I end up with.

I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who has replied to my questions. I've gone from just loving the look of a Cerbera to finding one I like, learning what the common faults/worse case scenarios are, having my chosen car inspected (Thursday or Friday) and if the report is favourable, purchasing my dream car. I found the man to do the inspection through PH and have also learned who my local TVR specialists are too all through this wonderful resource that I stumbled on by chance. This time next week I could be the proud owner of a Cerbera too...I feel like a kid at Christmas
