Yeah, I was thinking of doing this, but I think you have to take the engine and gearbox out

When I did this a few years ago, I used the bleed screw on top of the radiator next to the PAS fluid resevoir. By using a long enough hose, you can get one end right down into the bottom of the radiator.
By using a length of hose, I was able to syphon the coolant into a bucket. This got most of it out, but there was still a bit left when I took the rad out to get it fixed.

I've just had my rad out to check for leaks.
There's no drain plug on the rad (not on mine anyway).
Using a long screw driver or preferably a 7mm socket, undo the bottom hose on the rad (drivers side) and drain it from here. Its a bit of a pain to break the seal, but if you are just draining it it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
When refilling undo the top bolt (11/16th) on the rad to prevent an air pocket in the rad.

Well I was bored so thought "what can I pull apart"
I had a small oil leak from the cooler pipe, and possibly a small water leak from the rad. Put the two together and it looked like a BIG oil slick under the front of the car.
Hopefully the oil leak is now fixed, but I'm sure the rad IS leaking, I can see a build up of 'fur' on the end of the rad.

Removed the front engine cover.
There is a Rubber pipe running across the front of the engine bay, parallel to the radiator, under the chassis rail.
Undo the Jubilee clip on the passenger side, prise the hose off, and it all gushes out - remove the water tank filler cap to let it drain better.
It was a pain on mine because the jubilee clips were al rusted and seiezed, lots of WD40, and undone bit by bit with a mole grip. Now to get some new clips, anti freeze, water and fill it all back up. I'll post some pics later

Am i right in thinking you just undo the two 13mm nuts on the radiator and the hoses, wires for the fans.Then it should just pull up out of the car.
Thats about it. It is a bit of a squeeze getting the rad out, and as jensena says the bottom hose is a bit of a pain.
I would advise covering your wings to help avoid any scratches you may cause.
