a cerbera you didnt like the look of, but had a rebuild or a cerbera you've fallen in love with that (most likely) hasn't
if ever there was a heart v head situation i'm definitely in one.
there are a couple of blue
cerbs S6's that i have my eye on. one is really affordable and has had a full TVR rebuild. great. but, i really do not like blue. (rooney united supporter) and, there are no tuscan seats.
there is one all black cerb with beautiful black interior, alli dash and tuscan seats that i'm head over heels in love with.
BUT, as far as I and the dealer know, it hasn't had a rebuild, and is at that worrying 30k miles point. ALTHOUGH, the top end of the engine looks like it may have been taken off and welded back on (is what they all look like though ??)
what do i do? one thing that would placate me is to fit tuscan seats in a blue car but i think i'd still wonder about the all black cerb...

Is that the extent of your mechanical knowledge?
If you have absolutely no idea which end of a screwdriver to hold, then a Cerbera, any Cerbera is not for you. Buy a Boxster instead.

i dont think i'm the only non-mechanic TVR owner to be fair! and i'd also argue that engine problems are largely dealt with by specialists and not your average car owner. but feel free to vent your spleen

Indeed you are not sir, so don't be put off. I have little/no mechanical knowledge, and my greatest achievement in terms of mending the Cerb was reaffixing the cig lighter and changing a fuse. I know plenty of TVR owners who are not what you would call mechanically minded
Mine's not at all lumpy, original ecu etc.
Is the s6 with the rebuild, still under warranty ? If not, it's got no advantage over the original engined one.
In 2003, I was considering a Tuscan, so I asked my local speed 6 re builder which engine to go for, "2003" they answered.
In the subsequent years that answer has changed to "2004, 2005, 2006"

Our 4.5 is our everydayer, with a remap the V8 is smooooooooooth. More low down torque than the six and although its still a concern, we dont lose as much sleep over engine longevity in the AJP8 camp.
My Cerby is not quite an everydayer, but has regular use...400 miles last weekend, not a quibble in traffic, not lumpy, copes well with heat, and no worries with Engine, but with any engine of this kind of spec you cannot rule out problems, and if i didnt say that you could gaurantee i would have one
I have yet to see evidence that the SP6 issues are completely sorted...which is why i didnt get one.
If you fancy a look over a V8 Cerb for comparison, mines for sale for a genuine reason, i want more adrenalin, but rather than hijack the thread if you have any questions drop me a note or give me a bell, i would be happy to talk to you with no hard sell...

nice one folks, some really interesting responses. made my job harder as now I have a shedload of 4.2's and 4.5's to go through 
my local indie is an AJPV8 expert so from that point of view it would make sense to by a V8.
i'm just desperate to avoid overheating worries in town traffic and felt that six cylinders was more practical as I live in an urban area.
I will have to try out some V8's and see how they feel. I must admit that shiny black 4.5 in the classifieds caught my eye but it seems that nearly every cerb I like is about 200+ miles away.
plus with this black s6 i've seen they have offered me a very good price for my TT as they specialise in Audi.
ah well the hunt goes on....

How much actual research have you done?
Do you just want a Cerbera to look cool in? What makes you think AJP8's are hard to drive in town? What makes you think a semtex 6 will be any easier in town - it's the same size car you know!
And you drive a TT
Buy the Semtex 6 black one and come back on here in a couple of weeks saying it won't start/wipers don't work/one door won't open and bemoan that a TVR is far less reliable than your much lamented Toni and Guy car.
You should only buy a TVR if you are prepared to get your hands dirty. No mechanical knowledge and TVR's is a bit like driving after five pints of Stella - not at all a good idea and you are taking a huge risk, but you can do it.
