Poor driving or lack of torque
Discussion
Had a great morning at Brands Hatch yesterday. What I did notice was the hammering I took from some of the cars there. I'm no racing driver and my brakes were so bad I had to start breaking way to early for most corners.
I held my ground against plenty of the cars (older Porches, Subarus, BMWs etc) but felt that I was being out dragged out of the corners, especially by the Caterhams.
I'm guessing some of these vehicles were race prepared and running slicks.
I am running road tyres and 10-year old standard shocks.
Should a Cerbera out race Caterhams etc at Brands. If so, is it me, the car or both?
How do I fix me and how do I fix the car as I plan some more track days.

In a std car you'll struggle against most things that are even slightly track focussed. Grip is everything so tyres and brakes and suspension should be your first upgrades (assuming you get some tuition o course .. that's step 1 for getting more speed).
You wouldn't say Mike Saunder's cerb was slow around brands (faster than a tuscan race car ...) but it is race prepped, you don't have to go that far but you can make usefull gains and still be road driveable

What Cerbera have you got?
My 4.5 runs Red Rose Tuscan front discs, standard pads and I never have brake problems. I'm now on Gaz Golds having killed my (nearly 10 year old) stock shocks at the 'Ring. I run SP12 wheels and T1R tyres. Ride height and geo 'special recipe'. The motor's tweaked by Trackcar.
Hardly anything can live with it on track.
Happy to help you get going.

Thanks for your comments.
My car is a 97 4.5 with 54k miles and is standard all round.
When funds allow, my plan was: Emerald, short induction, SP exhaust and a suspension upgrade. A recent rolling road session showed about 370bhp. The person running the test said the car was running rich through the full rev range and that a programmable ECU would allow me to weaken the mixture for much improved power and torque. Only time and money will tell.
From another post it looks like the braking problems might be due to damaged lower wishbone bushes allowing the hub to shift back and forth.

If going fast round Brands (or any track) is a priority, bump the following above engine mods in your upgrade list:Nitrons all round + decent geo
Decent brake pads
