Electrics are my least favourite thing on a car, and my talents in this area barely extend beyond keeping the smoke within the wires, and the volts out of my own body! smile

So if I hit the washer button, the wipers do their dance (so the switch itself works fine), but bugger all liquid is squirted onto the screen. If I take the 2 plugs off the washer pump and stick a multimeter into them, I get 0v when I press the washer button.

I thought I'd start simple, and check fuses. I checked the manual and the washer pump isn't called out on a particular fuse. I then compared the fuse box to the diagram in the manual, and the majority of fuses aren't what the manual says they should be (i.e. manual says a fuse should be 20amp, it's actually 15amp ... and vice versa). That melted my brain a little bit, and I left things alone at this point ... not wanting to go further with bit of a brain fog on.

So my questions are manifold ...

- is there a particular fuse I should be checking? What else should be on the same fused circuit?
- if the fuse isn't the issue, any bright ideas on where to check next?
- is it normal for the fuse box to have an apparently random assortment of fuses in it? Should I correct back to what the manual says? Or if it ain't broke, don't fix it?
- a bit random, but what's the easiest way to get the front panel that hides the washer bottle off? I got it off, but it feels like I'm missing the best way of doing it.

Car's a 1998 4.2 if that makes any difference with the above.

Thanks in advance for any help ... and I apologise for spamming the forum with threads tonight. I'm trying to bottom out some niggles with the new car, and find it easier to address each issue separately.

You are absolutely right to keep subjects in separate threads

If its the earlier lower panel, then I remove the air intake trunking, undo the bolts, pull up from the drivers side and compress the water hose to give room for clearance

Thank you guys.

So if the wipers & washer are on the same fuse then the fuse is not a problem as the wipers work just fine.

Thank you for that wiring diagram Dave. Interesting that the washer pump has it's own earth ... that could well be something to explore.

I replaced all mine years ago with the ones that glow when they blow. Steve Heath did a complete set plus spares...

Do you have a link at all chap? This sounds like a decent idea! Did you also replace all the relays (or do you just carry spares for those?)

I'm guessing they were like these.

I've never had a relay fail...they are all still original as far as I'm aware
