Looks amazing bar the Japanese number plate recess. Wonder what the smoking issue was. Assume it will have lots of perished rubber etc to fix.

Will need some recommissioning for sure. Also an MPH speedo which might not be easy to find/adapt. There may be other small details like fog light (not sure) to get it on the road in the UK. Great to see though, will follow with interest.

Given the age I would have thought you would get it all refreshed. Replace all hoses, seals, engine mounts, cv boots, bushes etc.

I've had a few TVR's and lots of Euro's ex Japan. They rarely come with service history, which is unfortunate as you never know when items were serviced or replaced. On the whole it's worth the risk, as there fairly low milage, rust free, and in great condition.

Not saying this one isn't legit, as it looks a minter, but odometer wind back isn't uncommon.

An early one will have the analogue speedometer / odometer dials, that can no longer be repaired. Perhaps modified with a mph display is possible though.

They are electronic in operation, they all are since the mid 1990s, disassembly required to alter them, which is difficult! Replacements are available at Caerbont but only with the LCD digital odometer.
