Aircon useless as seems to be the usual case, but looking under bonnet & realised aircon clutch cuts in & immediately cuts out again & does this roughly once every 20 seconds so not pumping. Any ideas?

Also, which of the fans serves the aircon?

I had the system recharged within the last couple of months so I assume it's not a coolant problem.
Thanks
Jerry

The aircon clutch will "cycle" in and out, to prevent the evapourator and condensor freezing, 20 secs seems a bit short though. Although you've had your system re-gassed recenently, nothing to say you havent got a small leak. There are lots of good mobile operators out there, which do checks and re-gas at very rerasonable prices - just had mine done for £60. And the guy went all round with a sniffer thingy to check for leaks, have a look in the yelloww pages.

Good luck

Was this a local or national company you used? I'm trying to book one to have a look at mine and can't get anyone to commit to a date because they're too busy!!

He's a local guy(Swindon area) recommennded to me from a colleage, had to wait a few days, comes out in a van with all the equipment, and did it in the street outside my house. I expect with the weather recently, everyone is finding out their air-con is not up to scratch, so I'd expect everyone to be busy.

If it helps anyone, just checked with the AA.
They will check your aircon for £10 and regas for £75.

If you are a member you get 10% off.

You can check where your local AA is here:
www.theaa.com/servicecentres/service_centre_locator.jsp

Hope it helps.

Crazycats, thanks for the reply, but it doesn't stay on for 20 seconds, it stays on for 1 second every 20! It literally clicks, spins once & cuts out?

Oh right, sorry, wrong end of the stick there, definatly doesn't sound right, some compressors have a superheat switch in them, which if they detect high temps, eg low coolant, then they'll cut out, normally a fuse of some sort, so youd think that if it had overheated once, it wouldn't run again, don't know if the cerb compressor has one, I'll phone my local guy tommorrow and see what he says.

Not sure about cerbs, but in my beemer, too much or virtually no refridgerant gave exactly this.
