I had exactly the same problem with my SP6. Worn valve guides leading to excessive oil usage. Had the work done at about 16.5K miles.
Was off the road about 1 month - not as bad as I feared. All the work was done under the factory warranty.
My dealer, Castle, took the engine out and sent it back to Blackpool. I think this contributed to the relatively quick turnaround.
The whole episode was rather annoying because the engine was running so sweetly!
No problems in the 4K miles since. Doesn't use a drop of oil now.

Admiral, Does it run as sweet now after an engine out jobby. Has this been your only problem with your sp6,
mine had the followers done at 9k just before i bought it,thought that would be problms solved. Not so, did'nt
know valve guides were an issue. Still 1 month dont sound to bad, might get a couple of weeks driving in before winter bedtime.

Probably a more cost effective way of doing it. Bit like a starter motor, reconditioned heads.
