battery replacement in keyfob

Hi All,

I need to replace the battery in the key fob, as it's starting to go. I wanted to check what the process was for doing this before I got stuck on the hard shoulder somewhere.. :-)

Can someone fill me in on the details via email or the forum?

How do you know the battery is on the way out? Is it just becoming more difficult to lock and unlock? I had a Clifford alarm that would emit a lower-pitched chirp when the fob's batteries were running low.

The key fob used to work from around 10-20m away, recently I've had to be next to the car for the fob to work.

As you can appreciate I would like to change the battery before it's dead and whilst time is on my side...

Did mine on Saturday as having same symptoms as you. It's dead easy. Just ease the two sides of the keyfob apart with a small screwdriver, there are no clips holding it in place.
Once apart, remove the green "spacer" piece of circuit-board and you'll see the batteries which are held in with a ring of black plastic under the metal connector. Just slide this out and the two batteries will fall out.
I think they are 1202s but don't quote me. Easy enough to find at any motorspares shop - Fiver, all in.

BTW, I tried Jeremy Clarkson's idea with the keyfob on the side of your head when the range was really low and yes, it doubled. Have I scrambled my brain cell?

Fredw is absolutely spot on, did mine two weeks ago. Batteries are actually 35mAh Lithium CR coin cells, type number CR1220, £1.34 each (+VAT) from RS.
