I got the Cerbera out of the garage at home and found a small pool of oil on the garage floor. The oil would have come from the middle of the Car around the gearbox area.

It was about the size of a 50p, nice clean and RED. I think clutch slave cylinder... anyway sod it I drive it about 45 miles without any problems. so I put some newspaper on the garage floor and put it back in the garage. I get it out on Sunday (next day)and a very slight oil stain on the paper. Drive the car again for 25 miles without issue.

So can the clutch leak a small amount? and not be a problem ?or is it on its last legs.

Or was it brake fluid...

Have you checked the fluid level?

Not yet, because it looks like a right pain, removing that panel to get at it.....

remove all the sealant from around the cover, plus the 2 screws, and you should be able to prise it off. Mine was easy to get at.

If it's red, it's most likely gearbox oil. Check the filler plug on the driver's side of the 'box is tight (it's hard to get at though) as mine was leaking a bit due to this being loose.

I think gear oil prone to seeping out of the gearbox oil seals anyway though?

It is probably gearbox oil as said above, I had some on my floor after some clutch work but it turned out it was just spillage dripping off after they had refilled the gearbox.

Breath easy for the moment

Thanks guys, I never considered it to be gearbox oil....

I shall have to get the cover of as suggested and check the clutch fluid levels just in case. Out of interest if it was clutch fluid what colour would it be?

Mine was clear, made it easy to see all the rubbery bits of o'ring when it failed.
After they fixed it it's a kind of murky brown/yellow colour i think.

I've never seen red gearbox oil -- IME it's the same colour as engine oil, but thicker.

You sure it's not red diesel leaking out?

My guess is either power steering fluid or brake fluid.

The gearbox oil is red, and is the same stuff as used in the power steering, ATF fluid. So could be either

I think it has to be gearbox oil, as the pool of oil was quite far back from the front of the car and so a long way from the power steering.

I was worried as because its on the early clutch it would cost an arm a leg and a foot to repair.
