How much to repair bodyshell (trackday insurance)?
Discussion
I'm thinking of taking out trackday insurance to cover my Cerb while on track, which I bought for about £20k. However, the cost for £11k's worth of cover is substantially less than for £20k's worth of cover.
Excess is around £2k, and engine and gearbox aren't covered. So, worst case, if I completely wrecked it how much would it cost to have it re-shelled? Does £11k cover it (actually only £9k's worth of cover, because of the excess)? I think the most likely damage scenario is a few panels' worth, e.g. a front, a rear, or a side.
What do the rest of you do? I'm not really prepared to go on track without some sort of insurance cover. It's specifically excluded from my DL policy.

9k pays for a fair bit of fibreglass damage and paint, but isn't going to help if you really bend it. However, it's pretty rare to see write offs on track days - I've seen several TVRs with scraped paint from tyre walls, but only one doing a hard nose first impact.
You should be taking it easy and driving within your limits, on a safe track with lots of runoff you're unlikely to hit anything.
Plenty of people self insure - I do.
