Checking oil level -- no level ground!

There is no level ground near my house where I can check the oil level. What I thought of doing was this:

1) Drive to somewhere that's level
2) Wait 10 minutes for the oil to return to the sump
3) Check oil level, topping up as necessary
4) Drive back to my (slightly sloping) driveway
5) Wait 10 minutes for the oil to return to the sump
6) See where the oil level is now on the dipstick
7) Use that level for future reference

I'd wait longer than 10 mins. A lot longer.

Another idea. If you are on your own drive and its not too steep, why dont you park up one night on some ramps/blocks of wood/bricks to make it level, and then check it next morning.
