First time I've had to post a question so I hope someone out there can help with my minor problems:

Driving along today and the horn starts to sound - hadn't been near the button, ended up pulling fuse 6 out in order to silence it. Has anyone come across this sort of thing before and what is the likely problem i.e. new fuse or horn?

Also the wipers on intermittant seem to stop in random places across the screen. Usually this doesn't bother me as the velocity I'm usually travelling at means rain is cleared pretty quick. Any thoughts.

Many thanks in advance

I had the wiper problem when I had a chimp.
There is a stop (park?) electrical thing that gets wet and breaks.
Cost peanuts to fix.

This also happens if the screen is dry after wiping light rain away. The wipers sometimes stick to the dry windscreen, I never did anything about it just put it down to the blades being sharpely sprung onto the windscreen to cover the unusually shaped and low windscreen. Well it is like a curved letter box

Probably the ribbon cable from the steering wheel to the black boxes is shorting out which is why it is going off.

I don't have the Horn problem OO er!! but sometimes get the wipers coming on without touching the button. My first thought was the ribbon cable from the wheel to the box!! I've heard it's expensive to change. Can't see why though.

Put fuse back in today and guess what - everything back to normal. Seems to be a standard answer to a lot of electrical problems, leave it for a bit and it will be ok!

Either stiction on the windscreen or duffish parking switch on the wiper motor.

Stiction - think sticky and friction at the same time.

Theres only one situation that I can think of where 'sticky' and 'friction' are in the same sentance, and its too rude to print here!

Besides from my understanding, having been a member for only a short time, that its Podie that has the copyright to all the 'nob gags' on PH...

With the wipers on intermittent (or by initiating a single swipe with a brief press on the wash/wipe button) I quite often get a quick flash of frost warning! I'm sure there's some earthing/ribbon-shorting explanation, or maybe it's just my car's favourite little joke.

Frost warning light comes on when I go from dip to full beam. Not tried the wiper yet. I also think cable fault!!

1) this thread has turned into a Nissan Micra advert - boox made up words
2)dave, you have to get it wet to test the wipers . After the chat with your good lady the other day, let her take it out for a drive. What with her luck at being caught in thick fog on her first drive on her own in a Cerb she might as well try all the scary bits for you in advance, as it's bound to rain next time.
3)regarding wipers, have a read of this www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=40394&f=6&h=0&hw=wipers

There is a very long ribbon (no not that type) in the steering wheel centre and sometimes this can be torn or pinched/nipped over time or when last fitted.

This is usually the culprit and if it happens here and there it will usually only get worse.

I had a mint Chimaera once that ever two or three hours of usuage solid flicked the wipers straight over the screen to clear it...spooky.

To this day....no idea..

Bit off topic, but I'm considering puting a non-return valve in my washer line to prevent the two/three swipes with the wipers before getting any water.
