Hi all,

Please can someone advise me as the process for removing the started motor from a cerbera?

I've undone the holding bolts and the electric connections and now need to physically remove the unit itself... is there a method to this?

I am embarking on the same adventure....apparently you have to remove the airboxes, the air ducts followed by the fuel rails before you get access to the starter motor. Perhaps, someone with a manual can help ? ?

I've attemped to remove the starter from the top but it's a tight fit without removing any components.

Hopefully someone can fill us in on the process of getting the motor out with the minimum of fuss.

Thanks Joolz for the email.

After undoing the two holding bolts and the electrical connections, I loosened the fuel rail (held in with 4 5mm allen bolts) and then wiggled the starter motor out, bit of a fiddle but eventually popped out.

The starter didn't have any kind of heat shield attached, is it recommended that I put one on before I refit?

Starter motor will come out the top, but you will have to disconnect and remove the fuel rail to gain access.

BEWARE although the fuel pipe up to the rail is flexible, at the point where is passes the starter it's a copper tube. If you bash the starter into it or push it out the way too far you can bend it or put a dent it it, both blocking fuel supply. Cost/effort in replacing starter can then also includes cost/effort in replacing entire fuel line from tank/pump up to the fuel rail.

Done it twice now, first time was a big effort with lost of swearing!!

I found that I could remove the starter by doing the following.

1 remove cover ar rear of engine
2 remove air box
3 remove throttle cable and cable and throttle cable supports from rear of rocker cover

4 disconnect cables from starter
remove 2 large allen bolts to release starter.

4 turn starter 180deg so the thin end is facing you (opposite end to the gear wheel)

5 remove starter through hole.

It will come out but takes a but of doing!!

Well if Tilton made the starter you may well be, I've never heard that one mentioned before. Apprarently mitsubishi clutches go in, and the motor part is a std issue motor, other than that I don't know.
