I am having a problems with the main beam lights. When i turn the lights on to main beam, they are no brighter than the side lights and the high beam works fine. I've looked through some previous messages on the forum and they mention a black box above the petrol tank. Obviously there is a few black boxes at the back and i only presume that it's the one labled 'dim/dip'. As a far as my expertise does, was to disconnect the wires and attatch it again, obviously with no change at all.

Has any one got any tips or a beginners guide to fixing the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Daren

First thing to check is the fuses, easiest things first located behind one of the carpet flaps RH side of the boot.

I've read through your initial post again, and to be honest am a bit confused.

You say the side lights work and you describe the high beam and main beam, and then say one works and one doesn't!!!! To my mind they are both the same thing.

You should have as follows:-

First posistion on head light switch - ignition off - side lights only.

First posistion on switch - ingition ON - dim dip, which is a reduced intensity dipped pattern

Second position on switch - dip or main beam depending on button on stg wheel, and obviously tell-tale on dash.

Sorry if all this sounds a bit noddy, but it's not clear whats happening, if you can clarify a bit more then it may be easier to suggest something.

Ok i'll have another go...

Ignition is on, and i turn the light knob clockwise to the first position, which is the sidelights. Next i turn the knob again clockwise to the position of main beam. The brightness of this beam is no brighter than the first position. The high beam on the steering wheel works fine. I presume the main beam should be brighter than that of the sidelights.

I hope that explains my problem better.

I'd say that it doesn't sound right but my Cerb has had the dim dip light box burn out long ago.

My sequence goes like this:
first click: sidelights only, no dim dip
second click: main beam
button: high beam.

I don't even have the dim dip box anymore, so it either burnt out in the right position or there has been a bodge job somewhere along the way.
I do still have the burnt out wires and a space where the box should be...

Still, it's another thing that won't go wrong in the future
