My Cerb is playing games with me. Couple of weeks back i clocked 26k on the milometer, at which point it stopped working, stuck on 26000. The tripometer also decided to have a rest too. Used the car since on three or four occasions and still no change.

Then today, after driving for half an hour or so, i noticed that it had miraculously started clocking up the miles again! I had to giggle.

Am taking her in for a service and general health check next week anyway, but just wondered if this has happened to anyone else?

They all do that sir - reversing it is usually the cure (cant see why that does though, but its worked for us on three occaisions 19,999/ 29,999/ 39,999)

Will report how we get on around 49,999 - its currently 42k/ off the road for a bit - otherwise its used everyday (does around 12k a year commuting/ trackdays/hillclimbs and sprints) wouldnt change it for the world!!! No engine problems/ only a few minor issues over the time we have had it (38,000miles/a few years now.)

Long live the king...

Could be the sensor in the diff, but I guess if the speedo is working thats not it

They all seems to struggle with the '9's, I took mine apart to 'assist it to 90,000.

Same story for me at 19999, 29999 and 39999. Dont worry about it. Mine has always unstuck itself after 100 miles or so. Just another niggle to moan about.

cheers guys,

would seem mine is not the only mischievous Tiv around.
My girfriend reckons TVR plant a real life gremlin into each car during manufacture, just to add a bit of fun and random surpise for us owners. I think i agree, and i intend to start seeking the blighter out this weekend! Any ideas where he/she might be hid?

I had this too. A quick blast up to 150 and it started working again (fortunately I was travelling to Le Mans at the time).

A friend of mine (JoWilliams) had this, the solution ? A heavy handed thump on top of the speedo/dash & all was well again...

Continually push knock the trip reset while driving and it will eventually overcome the stiction and flip over.

I've had this speedo/milo problem a few times now. The first time, I took the car into a well known garage in Henley-on-Thames and they said the speedo had to be sent off to the factory to be mended.

Four weeks later it was back in the car and I was permitted to drive it away. On the way out of Henley I noticed that the speedo was still not working. I let them know.

When I took it back in the next time they 'discovered' that it was actually the wrong type of speedo (duh?) and I had to have a completely new one. No refund or apology for the four weeks of waiting before though. Funny, that.

Soon afterwards the new speedo/milo stopped working aswell. I am using a different garage now and they fixed the problem very quickly and showed me that the sensor thingy (can't remember the proper name for it) was all worn down because it had been badly fitted. My vague suspiscion is that the original speedo was probably fine after all.

Stitched up like a fg kipper!

Although mine has sorted itself out now, i narrowly missed a similiar experience as TATLOW. When mine first went, i rung up an official TVR dealer and when i explained the problem, they said to bring it in as the whole unit would have to be either reconditioned or a new one fitted, and i would be without the car for a few weeks! I then rung up my local Indie TVR garage to book a service and i mentioned it and they said not to worry its a common problem and could easily be fixed as part of the service/health check. Dare i ask how much you paid TATLOW?

Have a situation with mine that my speedo does nothing until 25 mph, wonder how many miles are missing off the clock. will sort it as soon as i have time but you have to wonder how many suposedly low mileage cars there are out there that are totally false?

jj - this is almost always caused by the sensor being being fitted just fractionally too far away from the segmented ring. Easy to fix yourself - undo the locknut and wind the sensor in so that it is as close as you can get it without fouling - make sure you do a full rotation of the driveshaft as the segmented ring is not always perfectly round.Total cost to fix = nil, must be a Cerbera 1st!!

Also worth giving the sensor and ring a good clean when you do it. Not uncommon for grit etc to accumulate. Brake cleaner is pretty good.

BTW don't buy the aerosol. Buy the 5 litre cans... about 8-10 pnds and a hand garden sprayer or recycle one. Put cleaner in sprayer and you have a refillable spray that works out at about 50-60p instead of 3-4 pnds.

I had a quick glance at my bills, which I need to sort out actually, and the speedo 'repair' was £200 plus VAT (plus the labour of removal and refitting) but I couldn't initially see how much the new speedo was, probably a few more hundreds of pounds, not to mention all the time that it was off the road - depreciation, insurance and tax (and the pining away! ).

What I think is really wrong is that you present a problem with your car and they (certain garages) 'fix' it. When that repair proves to be ineffective they don't give you your money back, instead they make lame excuses and then charge you the earth for a 2nd attempt. If you did that in my business you'd be hung out to dry for mis-selling.

I think that in this age of over-regulation and legislation there are a lot of rogues who are getting away with murder. Its a minefield out there and the walking-wounded are our wallets!

OK, I've said my piece and I've lightened up again now. Tomorrow, God willing, the road will be dry and the sun will be shining and I, personally, am going to give it LARGE PORTIONS. Cerbera rules!!!

speedos are a weak item on all TVRs.
It explains why you see so many TVRs with low miles but interiors that seem to be much higher use than the low miles suggest.
