Exorcist still required West Mids area.

When I press the black button, the ignition comes on, press & hold the button to start the car & nothing happens. Just a click from the boot when I press the button & another click when I release it.
The only way I can start the car, is by opening the boot & waiting for a few seconds, the car then starts first time.
I'm convinced it's something to do with the alarm, but what ???
P.S. the boot light comes on a few seconds after the boot's opened (delay), is this the norm ?

If It's just a case of pressing the fob for 4 seconds, then yes. Whilst armed & disarmed.
Is there anything else involved ?

Is there a way (without trying to get a multimeter on the starter motor) of testing to see if my immobiliser is letting voltage through to the starter motor ?
Can I check for voltage at a peticular fuse, for instance ?

The immobiliser could be a red herring - could just be your starter beginning to give up the ghost.
When my last starter motor started to die I would hear a click when trying to start. I would retry several times and eventually starter would turn the engine. Was worse when engine was hot - would usually have to wait for engine to cool (several minutes to several hours!) before it would eventually turn the engine. Replacement starter sorted the problem.

This will be a bit of a test: my griff had a new starter and began the wont start when hot. Testing the power consumed by the solenoid (not the starter) it was 50% down. A quick relay job and its back to full power, power lost through the many metres of wiring. Of course my wont start when hot was completely different from everyone else.

I have a similiar thing with mine. It is a terrible starter when hot or when used for quite some time, but from teh cold it starts no problem. Is this the starter motor then?

I think the 'click' that some are describing is the solenoid on the starter....Russell seems to be describing a 'click' from the boot area...now i know that there is a relay within the fuse/relay panel that is to do with the solenoid, maybe it is this that he can hear rather than the soleniod itself. Have you removed the relay and checked for corroded connections to this, its relay number 2.
Oh and the boot light....mine seems to be also dealyed by a couple of seconds...never noticed this until you mentioned it!...you learn something new everyday!

I,ve dropped in to my local indie this morning. Did it again, opened & shut the drivers door twice & it started. I'm hoping that whilst on the ramp they can hear something from the starter that a mere mortal like me, can't from outside the car.
Whats the chances that it starts first time, everytime, whilst they've got it ???

Many thanks to Horizon motorsport, apparently a dirty connection on the solenoid to the starter motor. I think thats what he said, well, it was a connection in the engine bay
