Start the car up, cannot get any gears...

Turn off the car and the gearbox feels smooth as with full gear selection.

If I try to start the car up in gear it sounds like there is no battery power!

Help!!

I recall a thread on this very problem a while back, but cannot recall what the outcome was. I think it was something to do with the clutch cable

How does the clutch pedal feel?
If it has gone soft (even for only part way down) it could be hydraulic.

Had the same problem a week after a 12k service....
Sounds like clutch fingers broken .
Mine is a 4.2 1996 which means a big bill to upgrade as standard service parts are not available, therefore new clutch/flywheel/flywheel casing/slave cylinder..

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I am still awaiting all parts 3 weeks after initial breakdown.

I had that problem which was the clutch fingers had fractured required new clutch and flywheel and it wasn't cheap.

Based on previous threads of clutch failures and upgrades, I would budget around £1500..

Yours is a late car isn't it (98?). It shouldn't cost that much (<1500), but aren't you covered by warranty - the clutch isn't covered usually but if the fingers broke then they should (and have in the past) paid for it replacing

Looks like it had new clutch fitted so I can get a warranty claim on the part and save the WHA warranty!

Getting sorted now!

Clutch. Fingers have broken. Mine went 4 mths ago.

Costs will be about £1200...assuming you have got to buy the upgrade flywheel (£200). Had mine done with Joolz.

I bet Warranty company's covering the cost.

Still waiting to hear the latest from James... Poor James has just got back from holiday!

He's having a word with Joolz as I type and should hear soon. It seems that it is the finger problem on the clutch so shouldn't be too expensive. At leat my warranty will cover it...

Just need to find a good dealer to sort it out. Maybe Thames Valley Racetech or Racing Green?

Don't think the Warranty company will fork out for all the work. Basically you'll get a new clutch which is not normally covered if it just wears out. It sounds very much like broken or fractured fingers to me, so they will have to pay part of the bill.

Had my clutch done the other week for exactly this problem. WHA paid 50% of the bill. I got a new clutch assembly, slave seals changed as a precaution and a new Master cylinder (old one starting to weep slightly), £725 the lot.

Car goes to Steve Howard at Precision Racing today!

Should have a nice new clutch by next week. Will let you know my thoughts.
