Cerbs in for service
Discussion
Apparently service on Cerb is finished!! Whoohhoooo!
seemed to go through okay, some noise from the bottom timing chain pully
'A lot of them do that'
.
Paul looks into his crystal ball and says I predict the exhaust will have trouble making it to the next service, and there is just a slight leak from your shocks. Whoohoooo!, Time for some nitrons, although can't seem to source and fit them before I have to pick the car up on thursday.
Previous dealer had put champion spark plugs in, apparently a well known
with cerbs, although not sure what the effect will be paul assures me I will feel a difference.
Few jobs for me to do at home. New CV boots on rear.
All in all, last service (small one) approx 3K, this service (bigger 12K service) approx £500.
Wooohoooo! I could fit nitrons, afterburners and blend in pods for the difference, and still have the right spark plugs in the car.
Top job Austec!!!!

Take a look at the AVO shocks that Paul does - as ever, it's all in teh setup though - Paul is currently setting up my Nitrons (after they were fitted by a chimp) - corner weighting, making the front softer, more travel etc.
Can't speak highly enough of Austech - even bailed me out when I ran out of petrol after a service!
Top guys.

A word with Joolz was the best thing I did (currently sorting out front Nitrons) - see below for details:

Maybe he doesnt like you doing your own service and he wants to get rid of some 'old' champion spark plugs he had laying around!!

errrrrr, I'll plead insanity on that one and wait for better heads than mine. When I asked austec what the difference was, I was told that Cerbs are well known to dislike them, and the engine runs much better on NGK. I think paul, mike and Jools chat quite a lot and therefore should be a good one.
yup, the cerb was engineered around the champion plug .. most people fit the NGK equivalent (including the fatory service dept i think!) .. cos they're cheaper (well they would be , being a vauxhall nova item!!). I always use the champion item, more expensive, but it's what was oe on the cerb before the penny pinchers /sponsors walked in.. carlube oil anyone?
Chatted to mike about the noise on your engine Julian, Nitrons available ex-stock for immediate overnight delivery too for the std set-up! doh!
Oh well ..

Yep, mike said he'd talked to you about it. Noise hasn't changed since I've owned the car. Bottom timing chain pulley. Sorry about the nitrons, the order came because he told me there was some weeping from the standard shocks and they would probably not make it to the next service. All the excuse I needed. But mike didn't manage to source the nitrons before I left, so if you have a chat with him I'm quite willing to order off you Joolz.
I also am going to need a rear exhaust and a upgrade radiator off you but I might wait a little while yet.
As for NGK vs Champions, paul was saying that NGK's gave him a better edge when he was doing his tuscan racing. I have to say I bent a few NSL's on the way home and couldn't tell any difference in the car between the two.

I saw your car looking shiney Julian, waiting patiently in the sun. Austec seemed to have hundreds of Cerbs when I took mine down there on Tuesday. I must admit, mine runs like a dream - allowing me make the most of an empty M26 on my way back.

Picked her up on thursday. Didn't see yours there. What were you having done ?
