Brake light gremlins!

Posted a topic a wee while back about ma brake lights not working. Kojak pointed me towards the switch thingy behind the brake pedal. Way hey fixed. 2 months on I think some gremlins have managed to get into the brake light system.

When I start the car and inspect brake lights they are ON! When i pump the pedal once they go OFF. i can pump it another 10 times and they stay off.

Any ideas??? Apart from me being too hungover and wondering how to check the lights are going on and off when I'm in the fecking car pumpinn the pedal!!

Adjust the switch thingy. My guess is the brake pedal sags slightly when parked up. Therefore the brakelights come on. Pumping the pedal makes everything right again with the servo working. Slight adjustment to move the switch a bit closer to the pedal should sort it.

Just the job with a hangover!

To check the switch is faulty, remove the two wires from it (spade connectors)

Whilst the wires are disconnected, lights should be off.

Put the two wires together, lights should be on.

Anything other than this, & your problems is elsewhere.

Good thinking! I'm actually an Electronics engineer as well. Have got an excuse though that I cant get all 6ft2inches of me down there to see the bloody thing! Duznay help that my drive way is on a slight incline.

Hi ya Jamie, Yep, it's a normally open switch, I'm the same height & must admit that I was a tad dizzy after cracking my skull off the underside of the steering column.

I think I must have had a panic attack from the claustrophobia !!!
