Asking for friend, does it have one and if so what is the frequency of change.

Looked on website but inconclusive thanks

It'll be on a paper sticker in the boot. And maybe a sticker on the engine, but these are often missing.
Alternatively, pop the Reg No. into a parts look-up (eg ECP), and see if it lists a belt kit or a chain kit for it. Or call a VW agent.

CAXA is the engine code and I think thats chain driven

Thank you - done some more research and it does seem it is chain driven.

Do chains stretch / need replacing ?

I will try and see if the owners manual addresses this...

Yes they can fail, however service, service, service and you will reduce the chances of it rattling. To be honest they are not too bad, budget around £700 to replace.
