As title, when car (Mk1 focus) is in gear and coasting at the lowest speed for that gear the car starts violently kangarooing. Never had this on any car before, would normally just pull itself along at say 10mph if in 2nd. Any ideas as to issue/fix?

Seriously?

Sounds like poor driving rather than a car issue. Dip the clutch or put it in 1st. Better yet get an automatic.

It sounds like it is stalling. Try some throttle.

He's right though isn't he guys? I regularly used to move the car 'on the clutch' in traffic. It should not kangaroo surely?

OP - my guess would be slightly wearing clutch? Is it slipping when you apply a boot full of power?

Sounds like there's a bit of slack in the drivetrain. Maybe a worn engine or gearbox mount.

My V70 petrol started doing this. It was a coil on its way out. Never threw a code.

I agree with engine / gearbox mount but a faulty Inlet Air Control Valve or sensor can also cause this.

Thanks for suggestions all, I'll have a check of the mounts. Clutch doesn't seem to be slipping but I'll pay more attention to check that too. Is a pain not being able to have the car crawl in traffic

You forgot to tell us which engine, 1.4/1.6, 1.8/2.0 Petrol or 1.8 Tdi/TDCi Diesel?

If it's a petrol then coil pack and HT leads are a strong possibility if you've never changed them, but equally this kind of thing can be caused by a bad sensor (MAF,lambda,coolant temperature etc.). Unlikely to be mechanical, e.g. clutch or engine mounts.

1.6 Petrol. Expect the coil packs nor HT leads have ever been changed, thanks smile
