Hi,
some friends have a Land Rover with STC1184 type ignition amplfier which seems to have died.

The engine is in a Series and they tell me that it does get rather warm.

Options are:
1. Buy another amplfier of same type (marked Lucas), present one lasted around 18 months
2. Buy the kit to relocate the amplifier somewhere on a bigger heatsink
3. Change to lumention
4. Change back to points

I've had a lot of success with 3 but they are reluctant to spend more when these modules are so cheap.

Advice please!

If that's the amp mounted onto the dizzy then they are known for heat failure. The sachet of paste must be used between the amp & the dizzy.
On my RRC the amp is mounted on the inner wing - standard for my MY. LR did a conversion kit to remotely mount the amps due to this problem.

Hi paintman,
it is mounted on the distributor and there was plenty of heatsink compound between the amplifier and the distributor.

I think Lumention is a better solution but that would mean them spending more money.

thank you!

My range Rover used to eat them until I made a remote mount. An ali plate bonded to the side of the screenwash bottle. Worked well.
