How do,

I have a failing A6 C6 2007 3.0 TDI. The engine has cam chain tensioner issues as well as other issues so the car is effectively a write off in terms of value. So.. I was thinking about having some fun with it as it is not worth selling.

I was thinking about getting a used 3.0 TFSI supercharged engine that did go in these bodies but wondered how much of a pain it is in terms of all the gubbins that goes with it and wondered if anyone here has done such an engine swap ?

If so, how much of a nightmare is it to do?

Many thanks.

Ben.

I would expect it to be a complete nightmare.

Did they do that engine without Quattro?

Isn't there someone who specialises in putting Audi V8s in B5 shape A4s and Passats. They may know how to do it.

Converting a diesel into a petrol? I don't think I'd like to even know how awkward that would be to do properly.

Gear ratios, instruments, fuel tank, pumps, lines. Let alone the admin fun of re-registering it with DVLA and changing taxation category/emissions etc.

Just buy an already complete petrol one instead.

sorry yes it is a quattro car.

Hmm, yes I was thinking wiring wise and ECU and sensor wise it would probably be a complete pig, even though my car shape and model was available with that engine. Thanks for your replies.

I know of someone who swapped a PD100 for a PD130 many years ago. Both were 1.9 PD TDIs and apparently the job was an absolute nightmare. I'd imagine with even more electronics and a fuel type swap for relatively little gain, it'd be time and money better spent just buying the car you want.

as said converting a diesel to a petrol is a pain. Would be easier and more than likely cheaper to buy the car with the engine fitted already

I would expect even worse.
