Ok, i hope you understand what i am trying to say here, i'm not the best at explaining, so,

1) we have assumed that the timing chain has slipped on my daughters car, as the cams at the ends with slots do not line up.
we think the reason for it not starting,


2) so, i locked the cam that i thought was good, and in the right place, then turned the other cam to line both slots up, to look the same side by side,


3) but now when i try to turn the engine, it locks up, like i maybe hitting a valve, i have not tried to pressure it any further than that, and have turned it back..


anybody know what i have done wrong?? like maybe line the wrong cam up to the other???

You need to go and buy timing tool's as your timing is almost certainly outnow

I am assuming you removed the cam belt/chain to allow you to turn the cam to the "correct" position?

So are the cams turning when you turn the crank?

It's possible it jumped a tooth somewhere. Almost definitely out now. You don't mention the crank. Crank and both cams need set up right relative to each other. What engine and perhaps some one could point you to the correct procedure. Also look at tensioner etc to see why it might have jumped out in the first place.

I hope you only tried turning by hand.

You don't say what make, model, engine etc.
If the timing chain was so worn that it could jump the sprocket, you would have heard it, and it would have worn through the timing cover by now.
A timing belt on the other hand.....

Why not give some background as to why you're tampering and making assumptions in the first place.

people dont just randomly start mucking about with timing chains etc for no reason.

No idea whether the cam timing was wrong before, but it's wrong now.
