Gearbox overheating

So I was motorway cruising in my 4 month old Audi Q5 Sportback, and I got a warning message I have never seen before. Something like “warning: gearbox over heating - please adapt driving style”. What has caused this? There was nothing out of the ordinary about my driving. I did accelerate heavily at one point a few mins earlier, but nothing that severe. Could the DSG be knackered?

I would get the oil level checked perhaps it has sprung a leak

I’ve had loads of new VAG cars (company scheme) including Q5 and have never had that, even with… demanding driving…

So either there’s something wrong with it or a dodgy sensor or whatever.. regardless, if it’s your car (and not one going back in a few months) I’d get it booked in to Audi for a check up so that at least it’s on record in case you get any trouble down the line.

Does the car have a transmission cooler and, if so, is it clogged with leaves?

Sensor fault seems most likely given the age of the car. But could also be genuinely overheating due to...

- Low oil level
- Blockage in oil system
- Blockage or some other issue with oil cooling
- Clutch pack slip (but suspect you'd have noticed this)

Definitely something to get checked out ASAP!

If the trans cooler circuit (heat exchanger etc) has a thermostat good chance its failed get it checked out temps can be inspected via live data cross ref with actual temps via infrared device etc , dont ignore it heat is a big trans enemy
