Seen a nice e46 I like
Discussion
Thinking of pulling the trigger on a e46 330ci manual with 115k but it has lpg installed. If I buy it would be removed as we don’t have any lpg stations around us. I just want to know what extra things or what things in general I should check around the car that the lpg system might have cause problems with.
Is there extra damage the system could have done the engine and how would I know? etc etc. I’m just concerned about extra wear. Probably need a replacement manifold once it’s out and to fill some holes.

I had an M54 engined 530 several years ago that I had LPG fitted to, the difference was not noticeable in any way except being close to 50% lower fuel cost mile/mile.
Even if there aren't many near you I certainly wouldn't remove it if it were mine, especially at current fuel costs.
It does absolutely no damage to anything the only provise is get the right plugs & change them every year.
It is much cleaner burning & barely even colours the oil by the time it is changed.

That’s good to know. I’ll see what I think if I end up buying then. Open mind and all that. Even if there aren't many near you I certainly wouldn't remove it if it were mine, especially at current fuel costs.

I think the only real wear risk is valves and seats due to loss of lubrication qualities from the petrol.
Some brands are affected by this more than others, and there used to be something called Flash Lube I think you could introduce into the system to help with this.
Other than that, and perhaps the quality of the kit and installation....should be good.
Don't these need recertified every few years for insurance as they are a gas installation ?
It is strange LPG never really took off, it should have, it did have potential. I think the latest iterations had actual LPG liquid injection, which had the most potential of all.

I believe (as they always start-up until the Head temp lifts) that the initial slug of petrol negates any issues, although I am no expert.Don't these need recertified every few years for insurance as they are a gas installation ?
I always service my own cars but (thinking similar to you) I did get the LPG kit serviced each year just in case it was an issue, IIRC the injectors each have a little filter, as does the distributor, (if that is the correct term) they also checked the mapping & ECU for any issues.

Your comments are quite reassuring although having looked at the map the closest lpg station to me is a 30 min drive and it s almost the same price as petrol. There is a cheaper station at about 95p but that s about a hour and 15 mins.
TBH.All I ever did with mine is to drive slightly differently, as in, I had an app that showed where the stations were & if I was below 1/4 on LPG, I would fill up in passing one of the stations that were on my common routes.
If I was going to Cornwall for instance, I started full on LPG & just timed my stop near Exeter when I knew I would be around the bottom of the tank, drove around for the week & did the reverse on return.
