Bit of a weird one this but I wonder if anyone else has had the same issue.
An online search suggests the 04 CV8 has a 79 litre fuel tank capacity. From “low fuel” warning to brim I can squeeze in around 25 litres, which understandably doesn’t get me very far. Fuel gauge reads a little under three quarters full at this point which would make sense. Why can’t I get any more fuel in? Ideas? Thoughts? Appreciate any experiences here.

With the power of google and no mechanical knowledge whatsoever check the EVAP canister isn't blocked.

Appropriate user name BTW.

Is it not possible that it is kind of the opposite to your thought process?
If you are confident that the station pump is 'clicking off' and its the same at another pump, then that suggests that the tank is actually full and maybe you have a problem with the fuel level sensor/sender instead?
You could prove this to a point by running beyond the displayed empty with a couple of Jerry cans in the boot, see how far you go before it actually sputters, then empty the Jerry cans in. If you get lots of miles before this happens, it is your sender.

Also, 25 litres from low warning would not/should not take the gauge to three quarters full, more likely just over a third, heading towards half.
Do you have a big boot CV8? The later small boot ones were sometimes tricky to fill, requiring a knack.biglaugh

Earlier big boot CV8, yes (2004).
I might give the “run empty” suggestion a go to confirm.

Also, consider disconnecting the battery for an hour. I've been reading that sometimes there is a glitch between the BCM and cluster, something gets confused, has an electronic brain fart and the gauge reads wrong. 'Resetting' sorts it out. Worth a shot?

Maybe someone has changed the fuel pump at a time and screwed up the sender ?
