Just had to thank A-Plan Insurance - & this forum for posting their advert! - for the fantastic insurance deal they've given me on a CV8 - £519 fully comp with 4 years NCB however that is on a limited mileage of 6K & only 1 driver, but still every penny counts!!

Mine was £945 with NU Direct stating mods 5yrs NCB (althougha claim in last 12 months)- good one was the changes to remap swung through by them offered no increase as it was still OEM and not a new chip - also was not concerned about power increse. Their rule of thumb is 10% for each major mod.

Cheapest quote I got was with RAC at £711 based on standard car with my missus and me with business use.

Amazing variation in attitude to mods though!

I declared all the mods to it x4 and A-Plan were fabulous - they do insist as part of the cover, that it is locked up in a garage at night...my garage is alarmed & the alarm is monitored! Don't know whether that stood for anyhing with them. Before them I went to www.insuresupermarket.com/motor/sp - the cheapest was £582, the dearest was £1,788!!!!! It pays to actually call these company's sometimes rather than trying to do it on line!

The hardest thing with insurance is if you don't hold a UK licence only an International or overseas licence. Most Insurance companies won't touch you.

Feckers!

NU Direct just charged me £56 for my Wortec catback & remap!

But 33yrs old £560 fully comp on a VXR - so can't complain really (although I put the excess high).

I've never had a prob with the licence thing.. I think a lot depends on the IQ of the tele sales operator (seldom triple digits!). I have always used the term "international licence" for the first discussion & then given them the "issued in Australia" bit later. Worked for me & Sooze on the HSV & the Smart car. (Tescos & Direct Line so far). Neither of us have or plan to get UK licences.

For any of you with competition licenses, take a look at Competition Car Insurance. They do a Road Insurance for Competition Cars policy. Its intended to cover, not surprisingly, competition cars used on the road. The benefit of the cover is that modifications are not required to be declared, as ALL modifications are covered. Just switched mine from Norwich Union to this after my brake upgrade and reduced my premium by 30% (based on limited miles).
