Just a quick question. I'm assuming my Vauxhall Monaro cv8 (2004) has the standard vauxhall Alarm and immobiliser fitted. Am I right in thnking this isn't thatcham rated?

If so, then whats a good product to upgrade the existing system to one the insurers will like?

I have a CV8, thatcham 1 has not been an issue with my insuerer Admiral. I understand from an ealier thread that a cobra 3868 can be fitted for under £300 to upgrade the CV8 system using orginal key.

sure can Ive done it and saved the cost in the first year of insurance, plus you get the benefit of ultrasonics and a boot space that is covered by the alarm

also can anyone say if the "HSV third generation ESS - Embedded Security System - and immobiliser fully integrated into
remote key pad central locking system" is thatcham cat 1 or cat2 or none at all?

There are a number of alarms that will work with the original fob, however, to be sure you need to find out if the immobiliser system is Category2 recognised, you can then fit what is known as a 2-1 upgrade.

I`ll find out for you in work on Mon whats fitted as standard, all i do know is that if the car is classed as an import, even if it`s come in from Europe, any security fitted won`t be recognised by the Insurance Company. A friend of mine imports Subaru`s from Belgium and even though they have the same scurity as a UK car the Insurance won`t accept it and i have to fit Cat1 Alarms to them all
I always use Toad Ai606 for Cat1`s as i have found them to be the most reliable out of all the ones i have tried over the years.

the cobra 3868 can be had for around £65 inc VAT at the moment from several suppliers. For full Thatcham it must be professionally installed though - find someone local to fit and certify and it seems like an excellent deal.

Thanks everyone. useful info here, fitting seems to be the expensive bit though.

I'll have to look around and see who I can find to fit it.
