I've asked this before and was told money would be better spent on performance mods. Well I've done a little performance mod with the LSV exhaust but would still like to know how much for an 05 bonnet for my Impulse Blue CV8? Any ideas anyone?

Jeff.

The vents are fake and look naff IMHO (sorry!). I need cooling (extractor) vents and am going to use Cool Louvres who cut vents in your OE bonnet reminiscent of a Jaguar E Type. Really pretty too

I've done it and I reckon it looks excellent.
Greens did a great job on the paint & fit and I paid about £1000 all in - it might be more now 'cos of a parts price increase, not sure tbh.

Would do for £1150 all in. The vents do allow engine cooling, but not a huge amount, everylittle helps though.

Thanks for the link. What about water ingress? Will everything not rust? Also... someone once said that doing this type of thing messes up the air flow under the bonnet and actually decreases the cooling capacity! Is this true?

Regards,
Richard.

Jeff - AP brakes - that's half the price of them you're talking about. Last I heard the bonnet was around the £500 mark then painting and fitting and how the hell you going to get your old one up the road afterwards to keep as a spare? Remembering of course the crap roads you got up there that cause millions of stone chips - why bother!!! Dave was never convinced the vents were even in the right place to provide any assistance with cooling the engine.

As Caspy said, the Vents do allow some cooling, therefore, they are not fake. They can be opened up from under the bonnet by removing the rubber insert plugs. The downside is that your engine gets dirtier a bit quicker with road dust.

Apart from that, I think they make the Monaro look a lot more agressive and most people that come up to me think that it really does add to the 'muscle car' look.

Funny, when the vents first appeared I really didn't like them and thought they were a bit naff. Now I think the early cars look a little plane in comparison!

Bit pricey for a pair of nostrols though!

Genuinely interested in why you might need extra extraction/cooling?

My car never ever gets above 1/3 up the temp guage and that's with a Wortec Sportpac.

Just wait until you damage the front end, then the job is only a little more expensive than a replacement 04 bonnet, painted.
If you need a sheep to run into, I can probabaly supply on a collection only basis - I'm sure the farmer will never find out

I have had a car done with Cool Louvre extractor Vents running approximately 1/3 of each side of the bonnet and a set of 6 each side at the front close to the centre line of the bonnet. It was done to increase airflow from under the bonnet after a big single turbo conversion as had a heat soak problem. It improved cooling visibly on the intercooler / engine temperature guages. No problem at all with with water ingress in 3-ish years of having them, but I do tend to waterproof the underbonnet electrics regularly with WD40 anyway (old habit).

When I first looked at improving cooling I looked at the VXR bonnet but even if the vents opened up as suggested by Caspy they let air IN, not out, which does indeed upset cooling even though the amount it is possible to flow with the vents is minimal.

I have circa 500 BHP plus 250 BHP of NOS currently, and am fitting a 1000 BHP Turbo Kit from Monkfish Performance. Heat is a problem now so the extractor vents will be necessary based on my experience with another big single turbo converted car. See my previous post.

In Aus they use fiberglass bonnets, aftermarket ofcourse.
Much cheaper and lighter.

Heat soak is bad for performance. Some guys suggest removing the rear rubber seal. You need airflow through, not just in to make the most of it.

Correct Removing seal does work but not enough for my requirements hence the use of Extractor vents to increase the airflow through the engine bay.

Do you know where I can find info on the fibreglass bonnets?
