A few piccies of the test mules

I've not heard any confirmation about the next Monaro. Anyone know if it's been given the green light?

I think they are stopping production of them.

Surely not? I know the current model's about to stop/has stopped production, but I'd have thought they'd have replaced it. Producing a coupe from a saloon isn't THAT big of a job.

Besides, it's a bit of a legend in Oz, isn't it?

No green light yet, but it has been designed. And at this stage if it goes into production it looks like being US made. It is a few years away at best..

Your best hope for Holdens in the UK are with the sedans.

The legend is based on the 4 door race cars. I will certainly buy the next HSV Commodore but not part with mine! Love the things

US made? As a Holden? I know GM are looking to use the Zeta platform for the Camaro and possibly the next GTO.

To be honest, if they sell us the Camaro, I'd be happy. It's a stunner

To be honest, Caspy, I'd settle for LHD. That is one stunning beast

RHD will definately boost UK interest though, and should be possible if it gets built on the Zeta platform. Here's hoping!

ive always been a big fan of american muscle, the new camaro and the new charger (which just pips it for me) look absolutely stunning.

In fact the only reason i have a holden is they are more practical than a two door yank tank

edit: the new comm looks nice, although it looks a lot shorter??

For stats on the Camaro, think Monaro! It run the 6 litre V8 and pumps out 400bhp. The concept is rumoured to use a Corvette chassis as a basis, although, as stated, the production car is likely to use GMs new global rear wheel drive Zeta platform. More stats here:

Stunning looking car

Please do a RHD, please!

It is a shame Chevrolet have decided to dilute their brand with the South Korean / pacific rim rubbish they are currently re-badging.

Richard.

hmmm the Camaro's not exactly what you would call subtle is it! As usual the production version I think will be slightly less extreme than that which I reckon is a good thing, it almost seems to be trying to hard in those pictures. I still think the Monaro VXR 6.0l strikes a good balance between aggression, purpose and poise. It gives the impression of complete coolness and control until poked where as we know it becomes a complete beast! That camaro looks like it's waiting to bite anyones head off who comes within 10 feet of it, like the angry short bloke down the pub but still it's a lovely looking car and I would love to own one!

edit: I also think slightly smaller wheels would suit it better too.

Apparently some US dealer was talking deposits for them. Got told off and had to withdraw the ad.
So it must be on the cards

The production Camaro hasn't been approved (yet......) but when it is approved it will have the suspension, both front and rear, of the VE commodore. It is also expected to become a little taller and a little narrower.

The Camaro concept has the VE commodore front suspension on the caddy CTS floor pan and CTS rear suspension.

Some interesting info from a supposed insider from Holden.
Note the use of the model "Omega", could this be something cool for the European market!?

"The correct model lineup for VE/WM is as follows:

Omega Base
Omega with Safety Pack (Active Head Restraints and Curtain Airbags)
SV6
Berlina
SS
SS V-Series
Calais
Calais V-Series
Statesman
Caprice

All models come standard with Dual-Stage Front Driver and Passenger Airbags, Side Airbags, ESP and ABS.

This has been confirmed and than cancelled many times but there is a possibility of a sports pack on the Omega.

Spec of Base SS similar to current SV8 and SS-V has spec of current SS (with upgrades introduced with SS-Z).

A price premium of a couple of thousand dollars over BF Falcon is planned.

Ute is internally confirmed for August 2007 and Wagon for early 2008. Ute mirrors Passenger car lineup with Base, SV6, SS and SS-V models. Looks very cool - tub sides slope downward from front of car to back. The wagon is much more of a 'Sports Wagon' than the current wagon, think Saab 9-3 SportCombi in terms of theme. VZ Crewman to continue until 2008 with no replacement planned."

It could be that Opel may pick up some models of the VE, but they seem to be going in another direction these days, and i think i remember reading somewhere a while back that their new large car was going to be FWD.
Maybe they might import just one or two niche models to add to their lineup instead of building them in Europe.
Remember the glory days of Opel back in the 60's with the 327 Chevy engined Diplomat? What a nice car that was!
But back to the Omega...maybe Holden are just using the name. Holden Commodores are already exported to Brazil as Chevrolet Omega's, and the Opel nametag of Berlina has been used on Commodores here for over twenty years.

Someone 'in the know' down here has just posted this in a forum, and i quote:
As an additional tidbit, all I'll say is that at some point in the near future an LS2 powered VE sedan will wear a Vauxhall VXR badge. Just something to whet your appetites, and excite the Brits among us.
