I would really love to be shown how to properly clean and polish a car, but for now this is the best I can do!

Well that looks mighty fine from here! Don't forget that Paul (Wortec) is also a closet car detailer
What process/products did you use and what's the car like for swirls and scratches? It's hard to tell from that pic.

Nothing too special:

Wash with Meguiars NXT Generation Car Wash using 2 mitts and 2 buckets.

Dry with Meguiars Water Magnet

Wax with NXT Generation Tech Wax

Cleaned the glass with Meguiars something or other glass cleaner.

As for swirls and scratches, they are there, not too bad in my opinion but a pro might have other thoughts. Was considering trying clay on it. Any thoughts?

This is a step up from (detailers please don't read this bit) - A sponge and Tesco's cheap car wash :O I am liking the results from starting to do it properly, just need to learn a bit more now.

Clay is a must if it has never had that treatment before. Get a nappy sack or dog poo bag then stick yer hand in and gently rub the paint. (Avoid neighbours at this time - they really do think you're completely mad if they catch you doing this) If if it feels as smooth as a babies butt then you're good to go but my bet is you'll feel loads of little bumps called bonded contaminants that only clay can remove. Trouble is you've already got a sealant/wax on it (NXT Tech Wax) and claying needs to have a product free surface to work properly so I'd wait until you next feel up to cleaning the car. Buy some Meguiars Deep Crystal #1 Paint Cleaner too before you clay to thoroughly clean up the paint.

Well done on ditching the sponge!!

that looks ace.

since getting my gts i have ditched the local car wash in favour of the mitt and two bucket. Meguiars stuff is nice in my opinion. I havent got round to polishing/waxing yet but i intend to do the 3 step in a few weeks.

Would it be worth while claying my car before or in-between one of these stages?

Indeed I do!!

If I get the Paint Cleaner & Clay then what is the process?

Do I have to wait now I have a wax/sealant on it?

Daz, I've spent a while looking on the site Dan recommended and came across loads of step by step guides for how to do it properly for all the different treatments. It's a very informative site so it's here in case of any help to you:

It's a great website. Get yourselves registered in the Newbies section and take it from there. (I'm Beeste on that website) You could ask on there for detailers in the Sussex border area too. The best ones that I know of are L200_Steve and Brazo although there are some other excellent ones too.

The other website forum to look at is: www.autopia.org (it's the US version of DW).
