I recommend Rhineland in Germany, you can then pop into the Nurberg for a quick stint around the toll road there..
Also very nice, not so many cars on the roads etc. Plus you can get 100 octane at Shell there for less than £1!
£45 return on Norfolkline ferry.

dartmouth is nicer imho

Have to agree there, I often stay at the Royal Castle Hotel, a most enjoyable experience right on the waterfront, arriving by ferry adds to the atmosphere too, very, very busy at Carnival time

Dartmouth is lovely - also try Salcombe, just down the coast. Beautiful scenery, great place for sitting at the Ferry Steps Inn, taking in the views & watching expensive life float by. Marine Hotel is possibly the best hotel in Salcombe.
Oh - and the buildings on Fore Street will vibrate like mad with the thunder of V8

I live in Salcombe - Torquay is a bit more lively with clubs etc and the normaln hooligans associated with that sort of place - very busy as is anywhere at bank holidays and summer holidays - Dartmouth is quieter (no nightclubs) and altogether a slower pace. Salcombe is great - 4 pubs and quite small, there is a club in Kingsbridge if you're desperate for a late drink, but it's full of teenagers!
