Has anyone stored their Monaro, VXR, etc, in a domestic garage for a lengthy time eg:- 12 weeks or more?
If so:-
1. Did you disconnect the battery?
2. What happened to the battery (if you didn't)? Did it go flat?
3. Did you connect a trickle charger to prevent battery going flat?
4. Were there any problems with the trickle charger?

Any help would be appreciated guy's, thanks!

It would be much better if you left it with me, I would drive it every day and would even take it on a run to Le Mans to ensure the battery was fully charged.

Paul-C - Thanks for that...I've heard though that the key will need reprogramming if you disconnect for a substantial period??? Is this the case? Certainly answers a load of questions though!! However, a stipulation by A-Plan is that the RAC Tracker is permanently on!

DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT CAR MINDING SERVICE

Thank you Paul for your recent request to have us look after your vehicle. I would like to address your first concern

Q : "How would I know that the car was driven, and not simply just started in your garage?"

A : We take great pride in having proof that we have driven your car, as you would expect from a quality service that we provide. We have postcards mailed to you to prove that we were infact taking the car out for a drive, and this can be proven by checks with the DVLA.

Q : "Are you a dodgy company"

A : No comment, as it is not worthy of an answer. The best way is to deal with us, and then find out for yourself. We can guarantee that you won't want to take your car anywhere else. If you did, they would probably say "What car?", rest assured, when you leave your vehicle with us, we guarantee that you will leave your car with us, and no body else.

More to be added, but have an outage here at work... ahhhh..

I have a few cars so store them for up to 3 months at a time without use, sometimes longer. I have never had a problem with keys needing reprogramming but called a Motor Engineer on your behalf to ask the same question. He advised no problem.

I have Trackers too but I remove the batteries from the garage which obviously is a good anti-theft device LOL! I would suggest that if you invested in a gear-lever clamp or steering wheel locked cover as well you will have no problems.

In addition to removing batteries, for long term storage I use an internal 'Carcoon' despite the fact my garages are dehumidified, have asphalt floors with membranes under them and industrial heaters on frost stats. I raise the cars off the ground and do an oil change before use if longer than 3 months if I dont regularly start them and run up to 'operating temperature'.

Happy to give any more help if required.

Ahhh a competitive quote, I therefore promise to charge your battery on the way to Le Mans and throw in some free hot weather testing in the south of Spain.

Many thanks for that Paul-C...extremely helpful. Unfortunately, my garage is quite small &, whilst I'm thinking of buying a high quality cover from Covercraft UK, the garage isn't big enough to get all the way round the car to fit the damn thing!! The car is sort of shoe-horned in so to speak - I have to get out of it via the passenger side!

However, the longest period I intend to leave it is 12 weeks...and thanks for ringing the engineer re the key!

Best regards,

Paul.H.
