Not sure whether I should worry or not, but last weekend I filled up with petrol then when I pulled out of the garage the Engine Check light came on It beeped about 3 times then went out. I never really thought any more about it. During the week I have never seen any hint of the light coming on. Today, went and filled up with petrol (first time since last weekend) and again when I pulled out the light came on again. Both times it reset itself without even switching the engine off and then on again.

Is this something I should worry about?

When that happens to me, I stop, open the bonnet and make sure the V8 is still there.
It wasn't once, it had fallen out.

I'm glad I take such precautions now.

I have seen a similar problem occur on LS1 Corvette. There are 2 possibilities I have seen. If you leave the cap loose, it can cause evaporative emissions, so a DTC is set. Also, if you fill the tank too full, it can confuse the evap purge canister and a DTC will be set in the PCM. both will put on the MIL, until the problem goes away. Scan the PCM and check for historic P codes, clear them, and the prob should be gone.

Nige, you didnt loose your V8 in Norfolk Square Brighton by any chance when it fell out. Was one sat at the top for a week till councill took it away. Unfortunatly nothing attached worth recovering. Figure it was them guys in Kemptown, again, fly tipping our side of town.

Sorry, Mate, I mean the fuel cap. Basically, there should be historic fault codes stored in the PCM which you can retrieve with a scan tool. This should give you a clue what caused the check engine (MIL) lamp to come on for a while.
