Can I get the engine cover off ('04 CV8) just by undoing the 4 bolts that show through it? Not done it before and don't want to loosen anything else by mistake!

Also, is it ok to run the car with the cover removed? I thought it might aid cooling through the summer.

yes just the 4 bolts. Might want to invest in a couple of covers though. Think LSV are doing something about supplying these sometime in July. I've been trawling the Oz sites for prices etc as I too want to lose the ninja turtle shell. Going rate from Oz seems to be around £80 again before carriage for 2 fibreglass covers - range of designs and colour coded to your choice. Perhaps a combined order from forum members could attract a discount if we got say 5-10 orders?

Fair point!

The turtle shell is a bit ugly, that's the main reason I want to remove it. People ask to see the engine, and then when I lift the bonnet they are confronted with something that looks more at home on a Galapagos beach. I'd be interested in covers. I've seen pics on here of some neat looking red ones, are they LS1 or LS2 covers? Or does one size fit all?

Only stirring... Yeah, you should see what is under the bonnet of the new V6's back home. Think they just used the same cover.. Have a photo of it somewhere... it was a nice car as well.

Actually most people take them off as it holds the heat in.
If anyone wants an HSV one let me know

Okay I'll investigate further re shipping and delivery dates - might be that Doug at LSV will have stock of his new paintable ones quicker than we can get them shipped in which case it'll come down to price

That was one of the first things I got rid of. Looks gross. Graham at Picador got me a nice set of covers in silver, look a bit like the ones on the Vette, but without the hallowed word on them. They were cheap as chips so a good upgrade. My nephew has the dead woodlouse so he can pretend to be Michaelangelo !!

You can also get some with a silver Monaro badge on them instead of the LS1 logo.
Another option are the stock VZ covers which cost approx $80, a whopping 30 pounds!!!
They do leave the power steering reservoir exposed on older cars.
