Just wondered what peolple are getting out of their cars? Any difference using etc optimax etc? I get about 30mpg from mine on a decent run using optimax. About 22 around town and we can all watch our gauges slide down rapidly with a heavy right foot. I have a 5.0 Clubsport while mine's being repaired and that managed a cool 36.5mpg on the 370 mile run home when I picked it up. Great for a V8 I thought.

Couple of pansies!

I get about 25-ish on a run and anything from 12-15 around town.

Tbh it doesn't overly bother me, if I want an economic car I'll take the bike or the Mrs Puma.

A Sunday trip to Manchester up the M1 M6 on Cruse Control returned 27MPG and A 1500 mile holiday around Devon at easter averaged 23MPG but short town Journeys I get about 12MPG. Also MK to Reading and back using the back roads for a bit of sport returns 20MPG.

Mine is a std 2005 CV8 but I understand a Remap can improve fuel economy. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes it will but you don't get a remap for that reason

Mine went from 21 to 26 mpg after the remap and exhaust on a longish run. 13 - 14 around the town. 04 CV8.

I quite agree. But it could be used as a justification to get the remap in the first place, be it to the wife or when wrestling with your own conscience. You know how it goes

Think of the money I’ll save on fuel if I have this remap. Think of the fun you’ll have if you have the remap and blow the fuel"

Know what I mean

I seem to be getting about 25mpg on a run and 18mpg around town. That's a '05 CV8 with remap. I don't really feel I'm getting much better mpg than before the remap.

Whilst I do keep an eye on the mpg, I agree with Nige....you can't be too bothered about fuel economy owning this sort of car.

Mine is an 04 CV8 i get 3 MPG more on a run than i did before remap now around 26-27. No change on short journeys between 2-5 miles get around 15 mpg or so.

Still not the reason to have one as many have commented.

The best I've managed on a long motorway run is 23mpg, but then I do have a rather heavy right foot and tend to spank it when I can just for fun

At the other end of the scale, a week of driving around town returned 14mpg. '04 CV8.

Had 29.1mpg on the run down to the summer meet last weekend and still determined to break the 30mpg mark.

Averaging between 18-21mpg around town, which isnt too bad either!!

The way to do it is to re-fill, get back up to motorway speed...and then re-set the trips.

(see darling, I told you it was economical)

It's quite interesting that the gen3 Chev seems to be a lot more hungry than the iron block holdens. I assumed it would be the other way around to be honest.
Obviously, if any of us were bothered in the slightest we wouldn't be driving one of these beasts.
30mpg in my GTS is pretty good then. I was driving a little less agressively in the clubby (as it's not mine and only on loan), some might even say like a woman. Even so 36.5 is awesome for an engine that size with such a big car.

Thanks for the info....

Time to plant boot!!!

For those looking for justification, my 540bhp (or was it more?) supercharged HSV was more economical than my previous 380bhp naturally aspirated HSV, when driving at similar speeds etc.
Never 100% sure why that was, some have suggested it was due to the s/c effectively being always on boost. I'm not an engineer, but it averaged about 2mpg more.
30mpg was easily obtainable if you could bear to sit at 70mph, which was about 1700rpm iirc.

First weekend of month drove from swindon to newcastle whilst footie on!! cruise set to 85mph with couple of boy racer momentary blast up to XXXand a 1/2 and ended up with 30.2mpg when did my refuel and worked out my ltrs to gallons, interestingly on way back (downhill to swindon) managed only 29mpg?. Around town 15-17mpg 9 mile commute normal mixed driving 22-25mpg.
All these figures have been same in my 9months and 8000mls of ownership.
Only cripe is peole thinking my HSV GTS-R is an Omega!!!
