Just wondering what peoples thoughts were of all buying a set of cheap hand held radio's for when we have our meets and stuff, so that everyone can keep in touch with everyone in the convoy.

Just an idea. Would suspect we would need to possibly buy them all at once to make sure we have a compatible set of units.

What's everyone else's thoughts? BTW, we ain't had a decent convoy for a while... and stop off at a pub for a beer for while... were are we going to have the next one..??

All we need now is "eleven long haired Friends of Jesus In a Chartreuse microbus".

heh heh

If you get UHF, you wont need to buy em all at once. Just decide what channel you want everyone on at the start of the cruise.

Reminds me of my old 4WD trips. In fact, in WA, each club thats affiliated with the national body reserves their own uhf channel for large meets. But there we're getting into proper club territory.

Careful, there'll be voting on treasurers and membership fees soon....

Nah, just thinking about a couple of the cuises that I have been on and people get lost... and wonder what is going on..

Yeah, probably don't need to get them at the same time, but thinking of a cheap pair, that you usually get like 2 sets of them... Will find one and put a link up, and see what people think...

I know we all have mobile phones, but it makes it pretty hard to let everyone know all at once in a group. And that is also assuming that everyone has everyone elses number as well.

Comments noted Raggy....but... all you need is an elected "front door" and/or "back door" and call them if you get screwed

What a palava!

Go get a set of Tandy Walkie-Talkies at about a tenner, set them all to channel 6 and away ya go - the things will even do that cool "skrrrt" noise after each talk.

You'll get about a half-mile or so range with cheapies, more with more expensive units.

Alternatively, just make sure everyone knows where they'e going 'cos I'm pretty sure such devices will fall foul of telephony whilst driving style laws.
