help request re: water pump
Discussion
Just been quoted £568.70 inc VAT for a water pump fot a CV8 Monaro! (must be the same pump as my R8 Clubsoprt/HSV GTS)
wondering if this would be cheaper in Austalia or USA?
Any help, guidance appreciated
Will
NB
Monaro owners need not be alarmed as I am likely to be only the second person to suffer this sort of failure in UK

Forget that, at that price get an electric one and pick up some more power too.

Or a stocky here www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/4599/GM-Performance-Parts-Water-Pumps.htm
Probably for under £100!
Ive bought stuff from both companies with no problems. sdpc do stock parts so if you have an LS1 check with them the LS2 part is the same etc.

I'm pretty sure its the same as my LS1 Camaro pump...
Send me some pics, as I have a spare one here, or pass on your email to me and I'll sned you pics of mine.
Only alterations, is that I drilled an additional temp sensor into it, for the guage on my car.
I can send you it to get you running again if need be, and you can source me a replacement.
Or perhaps Mike/Boosted LS1 may have some ??

Done some searching....
I think the part number is #89017593

Try placing a wanted ad over on LS1Tech or similar. You're bound to get a good second hand unit from someone.
www.gmpartsdirect.com/
They dont ship to the UK for some strange reason, but check the part number and price.
I did have another online GM partsfinder like that, that had pics, but cant find the damn link.

One nightmare about swapping the waterpump, is you also have to remove the damn supercharger bracket....
I modifed my bracket, ( mines steel ) to allow fitment and removal of waterpump without touching the blower bracket, so as to allow easier cam swaps. ( I once changed the cam about 4 times in as many days due to running issues after installation of a new cam ..... such a nightmare )
I didnt like continually removing and re-fitting the bolts for the blower bracket, in case the threads got damaged, so I modifed it for my new engine, so I wouldnt have to remove it again.

Not sure the links will work, they are on ebay in Oz under PARTS>HOLDEN then search for water pump.
I can probably get a price on a Holden spare parts one if you really want although looking at one of the links above they are $460.

Water pump arrived yesterday from USA, took about 8 days to get here, brand new with gaskets for £137.06 inc about $80 carriage, had to add VAT + clearence charges so the total was £173.88. Still a great saving on the price quoted by a Vauxhall dealer of £569 - I make that a saving of £395.12, thank gawd for flea bay. BTW the official US price is $300, why do we get stung so in blighty?

Is it the dodgy water that caused the failure? In the SE we have more chalk than water in the water supply. Do you use filtered water?
70,000 miles on ordinary tap water sourced from Northampton
Quite usual for pump failure at this mileage but not in an small block chevy, only the 2nd such occurance in 7 years from what I have heard.
My 'gripe' is GM's pricing statergy in UK
