Hi folks, hoping someone on here can help me.

Yesterday hit a problem (first thing ever to go wrong with the car in 14 months and 11,000 miles, except the fact the stock brakes didnt work, but that's another story )

When I got home, opened the boot with the key as usual, heard the funny click type sound as usual, but when I shut the boot it didn't seem to connect shut, in fact I can just lift it up no problem whether I alarm it off the key or the aftermarket alarm, the boot just doesnt connect as being shut and can just be lifted, it's permanently unlocked - wierd eh?.

Anyone else had this problem ???

Malc

Forgot to mention, the button in the glove box is operating freely, but I'm not getting the unlock sound when its pressed. could this be stuck or is it fused seperately does anyone know?

Green's have suggested checking the manual emergency release lever hasn't been knocked or moved.

Sorry to be asking these questions guys but trying to avoid a bloody long drive to get it looked at........

I have had it the other way - unlock the boot using the fob - here the click (and wurring sound) but the boot remains locked - can take up to three times to unlock and release.

I have a rear spoiler so I don't know if this causes the problem

I had that problem for a couple of months last year but it seems to have just cleared itself up......

Got a similar issue with my boot lid Malc. It takes several firm shoves to close it completely.

Are you saying that your lid is permanently open?

The fault where you hear the lock but it does not open on its own is caused by the 2 bumpstop rubbers compressing to the point where they no longer preload the lid enough to lift it up when the lock is released.

The good news is this is easily sorted. If you look closely you will see that the rubber bumpstops can be rotated to increase their length. Just wind them out until the boot pops up. Don't overdo it though, other wise it may not close, which may or may not be the other problem that was posted.

Hope this helps

I had a simliar problem in my VN... which believe it or not is the still the same mechanism.

Just trying to remember how I fixed it now.... I would spose you have done the obvious thing and gotten a bit of wire or something to try and simulate the bottom attachement. If I remember correctly my mechanism was too far around for it to grab the metal bar.. and hence it wasn't closing every time..

Found it

It was the metal bar/hoop that the lock connects into, had worked loose and slid down so lock coukldnt grab it. Needs a bit of adjusting now to set boot lid at right level but at least its locked.

Thanks for the responses.
