Tyre wear problem

Hello,

While taking my wheels off for a good clean and respray (inner section) I discovered a problem on the rear drivers tyre. The wheel was replaced due to an accident at the dealership and I received a replacement wheel and tyre off a demo car approx 3000 miles ago (2005 CV8 had about 800 miles on the clock at that time).

The problem is I have really bad wear on the back of the tyre, rest of it is fine as appears the passenger rear one. Its pretty much down about 3mm on the very inner edge and looks like it will need replacement in the next 1000 miles. Now bear in mind I drive like Miss Daisy - do you think I have a tyre problem or is it a problem with the suspension etc ?? I always run at 36 psi as previously recommended but will check its pressure again anyway.

I don't mind replacing the typre too much but a little expensive if it happens again.

Any thoughts ??

What sort of accident? Possibly bent something? I'm sure most others like me would have suspisions and send it in to have the geometry checked. If even a little out of line you will have this problem constantly.

If you drive like Miss Daisy (although she did'nt actually drive) what on earth are you doing in a Monaro, you need a nice little fiat or similar (LoL)

LOL - you sounds like my Mother !!

I am car addict as most are here. You don't need to hammer a Monaro to enjoy it (just your smile gets a little bigger when you do).

Thanks fot the feedback I will book the car in with the dealers again and see what they say about it and wrecking the tyre.

I am not sure about the monaro but on the Commodore the more weight you have in the boot the tyres wear on the inside. A couple of ears ago we srove down to melbourne for a holiday, boot loaded by the time we got back the inside of the rear tyres were bald.....

Be interesting to know what the damage was. Won't take much of a knock to put the rear wheel alignment out. I suggest you get it checked out.

The rear tyres shouldn't wear regardless of weight carried. The monaro is fitted with the additional toe control link - specifically to address the problem seen on earlier cars.

I will book it in for a check up. Shame I can't visit until week after next though due to work.

I will let everyone know the out come. I don't seem to have much luck with the dealer and always seems to cost me money even if its just for the drive down and back !!

Oh well could be worse.

The damage that required replacement of the drivers rear wheel appears to have misaligned that wheel and must be corrected.

I allways carry a lot of weight in the boot and the rear tyre wear is completely even across the full width of the rear tyres.

37K miles and lots of fun in between the mway grind, all the rear tyres i have worn out have been even wear.

The front tyres are more prone to uneven wear due to misalignment, or
incorrect pressure for the type of journey.
