Hiya, i looked at that car 4 weeks ago, originally £19995 now 16995 still way to much i'd say. £ 12500 tops.
Its now only about a £1000 too much in my opinion if a pristine example. In case you dont know the HSV GTS and GTSR are very different cars to Monaro CV8 and VXR in either 5.7 or 6.0 litres. Far better handling and braking, increasingly rare and imported in far less numbers than the Monaros, this is the car that made them a legend in racing.

I would have thought the VXR 6.0l would have handled at least as well as the older HSV's? Agree about the braking to an extent as I believe the GTS and GTSR came with Harrop 4 pots as standard which are superior to the ones fitted to the VXR. Since the VXR is a HSV anyway it doesn't make sense that the GTS and R which are 'older' models would be significantly better than the newer one. Maybe someone who has driven both would like to elaborate?

I can only comment on difference between CV8 monaro and my GTSR, I found the interior better looking on the Monaro with nicer modern touches as you would expect, My HSV felt more planted and secure and had more grunt out of same corners in same gear/speed (diff ratio?) as for brakes I found my AP's big improvemnt over my Harrops (which are in garage!!) however the brakes on the CV8 are without shadow of a doubt terrible- heavy car with too pistons up front and they are not even apposing eg one side fixed!! what tat.
To sum it up Monaro gets more looks for mine to equal it need nice zorst to get heads turning
For comfort and usability = Gtsr over monaro as monaro not very practical (2005 boot)
As for performance will let you know after Nurgburgring this weekend I will try and get video posted if I can get passenger to hold camera steady!!

If this sounds like I am denegrating the Monaro I apologise in advance as apart from the older HSV's and (gasp!) MG ZT 260's I regard them as better than anything including Germanys finest.
I tried a 5.7 litre and 6 litre VXR on a track back to back with one of my HSVs on two occassions, both dry. The HSV (2000 GTS) had OE suspension and Harrop brakes with Porterfield pads, which genuinely match AP despite this claim being rubbished
They were both inferior to the HSV and allegedly I can drive a bit quickly
I also compared one to a tuned (circa 300 BHP) MG ZT260, once again with OE (but they are AP) brakes and suspension. Again they were inferior. I was going to buy one subject to their comparative performance. Having said that since then, with the availabilty of suspension and brake upgrades I am going to buy a 6 litre VXR and probably part with my M5 as I will not get rid of an HSV. It will be interesting to see if it can be made as good. If anyone would like to have a play in either an HSV or an MG to see what I'm talking about I would more than happy to help.
Wow, thanks for the reply paul. I did not think you were rubbishing it at all and as we both know there are plenty of upgrades available re suspension and brakes. I just simply don't have enough experience of the various models to be able to compare and it is great that someone as experienced as yourself (who can drive a bit quickly
) can make a fair and unbiased opinion. I look forward to hearing the results when you buy your 6.0 VXR!
