I don't think there is a set limit but the police can do you for creating a nuisance or something like that...

Don't think so. You can get done for reving on your drive like a T**t in the middle of the night but not for big pipes.

BTW saw the funniest Supra with twin drain pipes the other day down in Chiswick. Didn't half the heart to tell him he sounded like a BMW 318i with a blowing back box.....

In the Uk there's a limit of 75db(A) for new vehicles on a driveby test.
That's the reason the UK GTOs are quieter than the US and Australian versions.

I doubt very much that the likes of TVR are below 75db as standard.

Where was the source of your information? I would also like to know the sound limit. Just incase I get pulled, it would be nice to tell the copper 'well actually I am legal'. I dont expect I am, a quick blat in a tunnel and my ears were duff for about 15 mins.

Which is why TVRs aren't properly Type Approved as mass produced vehicles.

For the MoT test (and John T Law stopping you) there isn't a 'pass' volume for exhaust noise, just objective statements like "excessive noise".

I know for a fact that the VXR was type approved on the low volume scheme and had to comply with the 75db(A) limit.
The UK VXR had far more restrictive intermediate mufflers than the AU spec car to get it to pass the test.

Check this out: www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/specs/data.aspx?model_id=1036&id=17454

The VW lupo makes 73db!!! Just confirms my belief that a Wortec exhaust or similar is almost mandatory to any Monaro owner.
