True, but they will then tend to buy cars with better fuel mileage.
One thing I noticed coming here from NZ was all the little hatch backs and 4 cyl cars around 1 or 2 L.
NZ and Oz average engine would be maybe double. Most guys I know owned ford or holdens at least 4L 6 cyl. Turbo subaru's etc. Make fuel there the same cost as here and I bet the small cars start selling there too.

I have to buy petrol and whatever it costs I will end up paying it!
Thats why the government can pretty much tax it as much as it wants - extremely price inelastic demand (i.e. people will pay whatever it costs
)Dan - back in '99/'00 when the last petrol crisis was on, I watched the news on TV with a spokesman from BP or Shell - can't remember - & he stated on TV that, out of 80p (then) at the pump, they get 18p/Ltr off the Government. It cost's them 15p/Ltr to get it out of the ground so the rest must've been taxes. Yes? How much longer are we going to blame the petrol Co's for the prices?
Petrol stations make literally 1 or 2 pence profit per litre. Even if the likes of BP shut down every single one of their stations it would hardly make a dent in their profits
The Government on the other hand makes far too much from us motorists and never invests it in a decent infrastructure.

We have mapped over 70 Monaro/HSV etc. and this is my recommendations based on extensive datalogging.......
2004 CV8 untuned use 95 for best results but will run on 92.
2004 VXR untuned use 97 for best results but will run on 95.
2005 CV8 untuned use 97 for best results but will run on 95.
2005 VXR untuned use 97 only............shows bad knock on 95!!!!!
After a Wortec re map it is best to use 97+ for best results but cars will run safely
on 95 but you will lose 10-12hp.
I use 99 in my HSV (special map written for it) and have seen good results in forced induction cars but standard cars won't get any real benifits, but it is a good price...........

That was what Paul said a while back, I guess he has done enough tuning to know what he is talking about

Lesson to be learned here......... STICK TO THE SAME PUMP!!!
What I mean is that it is no secret that while my cat-back tune was being done by Paul, the fuel in my tank was clearly NOT 97ron. This caused a lot of grief for the station concerned as I have used this place day in and day for last 3 yrs. ****Paul please feel free to elaberate****
I've since used either Texaco Super or Optimax, and the reaults have been more than pleasing. There have been moments where I have had to use other fuels on my motorway runs, but a hlaf tank or so of this crap, then a tank a Tex Super/Optimax has done the trick.
Either Optimax or Tex Hi-Oct (both 97ron) have proved great for my car.......
Was told to steer clear of anything other than 97ron and that is EXACTLY what I have done!!
