I have just had a strange door handle fault on my 04 VXR.

Basically my 3 year old opened the door normally, got in, then the wife jumped in the front and closed the door... but it didn’t shut?! (it closed but didn’t go on to the catch)

Got out and saw the door handle was stuck out and wouldn’t go back in.

After some gentle persuasion the handle went back in, the while handle unit slid down a bit but the door still didn’t shut!

After lots of fafing around I gave up and started to take the door panel of to have a look. Half way through doing this I tried to open the window and it got stuck. Then a crunch and lots of mechanical noises so I did the window back up.

After this I noticed the handle was back in and the door would shut.

When I then tried to open the window it made the handle pop out again and got stuck half way down.

I was then getting pretty anxious about it at this time I managed to get to the situation where the door would shut and the window was up (phew).

So looks like I will have to go to a dealer and see if the fault can be fixed (preferably under warranty). I need to get the air bag done and the 20k service at the same time so plenty of birds being hit with the same stone.

Anyone else had this happen?

To really top the weekend of my son managed to stand on the rear cubbyhole lid (underneath the vents) and break it off. I have managed to get the pins and the lid back on but it wont stay shut.

Any tips on this also?

TIA.

the door handles have a rod that pushes down on a lever. These are two separate items joined by a corrugated plastic washer. if the door handle is forced then the rods tend to bend and pop out of the washer. Stupid Old Holden design im afraid. As regards your rear tray, the little latch pin will have snapped off, another common problem. Replacement door and spring is the only way to go.

I have just replaced a complete HSV clubsport interior due to the car being in an accident, the airbags all being deployed. The pretensioners destroyed the central console. I had to replace the dashpad, both air bags, steering wheel, console, seatbelts, pretensioners, airbag control unit... good job holden make em simple!

This might not be the most helpfull suggestion to be made but:

Have a confederate flag put on the roof - seal the doors up - call it the 'General Motors', your back in rooting tooting business.

Hot pants and option

Raccoon hat and moonshine a must

couple of breakers yards got monaro's in - sure you'll be able to get a replacement from one of them for that interior piece. As for door - should be covered by warranty - 3 years from new so I'd be pushing for it to be fixed under that.
