I've always been sure that razor blade makers 'dumb down' the quality of there products before launching a new Mach Extreme Power 3 version.
You the buy new version and think it's great, but is it any better than when the original power 2 version first came out?

So my question is - have Shell done the same.

The last couple of months, I have been wondering - has the remap been taken off by my 'helpful' local dealer? - even spoke to Roger at Monkfish about the posibility!

Then yesterday filled the car up with V power (always used optimax before) and within about 5 miles the car 'woke up'!

Anyone else noticed the same or is it just my imagination?

That is an interesting point. I alwasy used to get best results with Optimax (and from well used garage so regular new fuel) but recently I am convinced car runs better and more sharp on BP Ultimate...conspiracy theories....

Interesting one this....

I suspect at least part of it is psychological.

As for dumbing down the fuels, I doubt it for two reasons:

1) The risk of this being released in the press would be too damaging to Shell (Who aren't having a good time at the moment).
2) Take Le Sarthes example, he tried BP Ultimate and is happier with that. How many other people would do that and never go back to Shell?

Psychosomatic in most cases I suspect. I read all sorts about people trying different fuels and getting different responses from their cars.

Surely if you try 3 different supers, the difference in HP etc is going to be so small you'd never be able to notice?

Maybe I'm an old cynic, but my car runs great on the (cheap) Sainsburys Super - and not so great on the Tesco 99RON stuff....

Definately not Pschyo - you do get differences in areas such as throttle response etc. it is not necessarily about developing more or less HP (although the diffs are not particularly big).

Personally don't think Shell would be so daft but you never know....

I'm sure you are all correct about my imagination, but the trottle response is better (for sure) and it picks up better in 5th and 6th gears - i'm 100% sure!
It is a couple of pence more than optimax mind and 99 ron.

The other theory is that due to the fact that they are heavily pushing the Ferrari link and me having go faster Red..........

As a Shell pluspoints card holder, my new V-Power card & supporting literature arrived whilst I was away on holiday. The new V-Power is 99ron. I had a chat with the manager at the Shell station today, he was asking why he hadn't seen the HSV for a while! He confirmed that as well as being 99ron there is a new blend of additives.

Oh and by the way,
If anyone posts a reply claiming thier colour car is faster than red,
Anyone who drives a car finished in slowSILVER, starting to go backwards BLACK, still in a 2001 parking space ODYSSEY - no rudness to yellow -
Then I would invite them to a dual :-
Their 'lower spec' colour car v my builder mates white astra-max
Lets sort this out in a proper 'adult' way!tank

I did a fill on it, seemed to run fine. Not sure if it was any better or not.
Was about 98.9p somewhere in the cotswalds. I usually use 97 from Sainsburys at 94.9p

Well I'll certainly give a couple of tanks of V a go to see if it makes a difference. But Sainsburys is soooo cheap (in comparison - it's bank robbingly expensive otherwise!) it's hard to change.

I've used Tesco 99 super for at least 3 tankfuls and now on second tank of V fuel. Car certainly is more responsive on 99 ron fuel and slightly more efficient mpg-wise but I can't say that there seems to any further advantage in upgrading to V Power from Tesco Super. So I think I'll be going back to Tesco and saving the extra pennies for the 'Headers fund'.

I thought the point in the Optimax/Ultimate/V-Power is the additives they have in them. Longer term doesn't it keep your engine in better condition?

I have been rotating through assorted super unleaded fuels, including Sainsburys best and Tesco 99 ron. I must say I favour Tesco, that is until this week when I tried my first tank of Shell`s V-power. Definatley better. The Monaro she like!! Maybe not quicker, but it is smoother and more responsive. Try it and you`ll see!

I was on BP ultimate on my first session at Brands today, filled up with V-Power and went out again. Could be my imagination but she seemd to feel sharper afterwards.

Interesting link on different fuels on PH main page www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=14919

Seems to suggest that for performance Tesco 99 was better than Optimax/Ultimate/95.

I might just have to try Tesco 99 for a couple of tanks

Retarded Red! No No NO! It's all a question of timing when it comes to 99 RON fuel, retarded - I don't think so.
Still with only std brakes I accept your 'still got the blues' car will be first into the ditch!
Now would you be repectful of your faster colour cars and refer to them as Rockin' Rooster Red!
