Enjoy.

I'd be interested to hear what you think of the AVO's. Think it may be the first upgrade.

Interesting question.

I had three weeks to do this and basically I did as per the instructions with 'soft' braking and gradually building up to hard. I am quite soft on the brakes (I think) and was not totally convinced I did it right. Took the car to Brands three weeks after and the brakes were simply superb, no fade whatsoever. Guess I was not pushing hard enough.....

Picador, where I had it done, were very very precise not to be hard on them at all for the first 100 miles or so or basically you wreck the discs and pads, consequently I really tried to do what I was told - for once.

If you're short of a good read with your Coco, the stoptech web site is pretty informative. The science of bedding in, and how your discs may not be warped after all.

I did mine as per the AP instructions, find a nice long streight road for the first bit. Once I compleeted the bedding in I then did 2300 miles around Europe. After that they were fine. Saved my skin a couple of times when emergency stops were require!

Although it's recommended that you follow a bedding in procedure, i don't think it's strictly necessary, i'll explain.

I had to get my APs sent over from Australia because they weren't available in the UK at the time (even though they were made in the UK by AP, long story...)

They took longer to arrive that I thought and I ended up driving down to Heathrow to collect them, to fit them on the Friday afternoon/evening before a track day at Bedford on the Saturday morning! So I only had a bit of local driving around and the drive up to Bedford on the Saturday morning to 'bed them in'.

I was a little concerned over subjecting them to heavy use so soon after fitting, but I have had no problems at all. They performed superbly on the day (way way better than the standard brakes) and have got even better with mileage. 15,000 miles later the pads hardly seem worn, the discs are showing a little grooving but I have no probs with brake judder at all. Biggest problem is the amount of black dust they generate!

Follow the instructions as per the AP site. I always stay off them properly for between 500 and 100 miles. Not motorway miles though, just your normal roads and normal braking. You will feel them getting better as u drive, dont be tempted to 'try' them to soon, they will never be the same.

That's why I'm getting them done now... too tempting with the S/C

Am I missing something or does the stoptech info seem to contradict the AP and other general advice??? stoptech seems to encourage "hard" but "even" braking but AP and others suggest to avoid hard braking for x hundred miles?

I'm suspect that the AP's need slightly gentler encouragement to get sufficent temperature & transfer. The stoptech doc is pretty generic. If you've got manufacturers advise follow their wise words.

Wonder how BO55 is getting on avoiding full-power stops from above 70..........

I heard Caspy's settings are a little on the hard side

Be interested to understand how low below standard hieght it was dropped though.

I guess lower is better, but I'm trying to get a feel for how good the setup is without dropping height too much. If I have to drop the height lots to get real benefits then I'll have to either

a) put the garage on stilts & have some sort of rope bridge
b) get the pavement lowered between driveway & road
c) drive around with bloody great planks of wood in the boot so I can get on & off the drive
