I'm in the market for an 04 VXR, just wondered if there is anything out of the ordinary to check on these cars?
Thanks

Not an owner, yet, but these beasts appear to be very reliable. Other than the usual things to check with any secondhand buy, you'll need to know if the car's had any mods (many do) such as exhaust/remaps etc.

Not sure if Benno's is still for sale, but that's one heck of a lot of car for the money.

The only thing I would check for is if it was an press car. Do search on this list and they have most of the known registrations. Otherwise you cant really go wrong if you check for everything you would on a 'normal' car.

Only real issue Ive seen crop up is water leaking into the rear passenger compartment. Some owners might be able to give details. But Id check under the mats for Damp there.
Otherwise they are pretty solid. Check for good service history and nice clean oil which will show a nicely maintained vehicle.

Dont be scared of a press car, they are always maintained to a very high std.

Wasn't there something a while back about one of the hoses somewhere being potentially a bit short and under a bit of stress?

Or did I dream that?
Apols if I did.

I think you're right. It was a cooling hose I seem to remember. Odd, given where the car originates from hehe

Yeah drivers side heater hose, very close to a metal clip which can chew it through.

Doesn't really matter really... cause driving on the roads here in winter is exactly the same. It is pretty sad really...

don't think its the heating hose he was thinking of - isnt there a clutch hose or something underneath the car that is a bit of a problem with that model? the heater hose is a problem with all models depending on who fitted the hoses and whether they twisted them into the right position to avoid the post. The water problem - thats a simple fix as well - isnt it just a blocked drain hole again due to the build quality on the cars?

My advice would be go for it but make sure its black if you want a fast one and shop about - I've seen them go for around the 20-21k mark with <15k miles on the clock.

I had a problem with my power steering hose coming loose, apparently there has been a few of these. Not really a problem but just needs checking.

Yeah Ive heard that from a mate, plus mine did that too. Heat causes the hoses to get loose on the tank and start leaking. Nothing a screw driver doesnt fix.

Check the discs are okay,

They sometimes warp.
The rubber hoses feeding into the PAS reservoir often leak.
The front anti-roll bar upper link bushes need replacing every two to three years.
Check the engine for undue noise (lifter tick mainly).
That's about it really, along with what the other guys have said.

agreed, it certainly is.

had loads of interest plus 3/4 viewings with various people waiting to sell their car / raising a loan / organising to travel down from up north etc but at the moment its still for sale...

the daft thing is that the price is really circa £18,500 if you take off the new type Wortec exhaust, 4 brand new tyres, refurbed wheels and a service.....

whats been funny has been the volume of trader calls, seems they all want to rob me with daft offers. its incredible how the sucking through the teeth routine and the 'they are difficult to sell you know' falls apart when you asked why they bothered calling on that basis
